2 out of 5 eggsIt was fun while it lasted...

Pros: Bought on a great shell shocker deal

Cons: As with other that have posted, 18 months then crashed and burned.

Other Thoughts: Duno why this HD is failing. It was great while it was working. Big bummer that I lost all my personal data. No real warning it was going ether. Just one morning "poof". Will be attempting an RA with Hitachi as this is suppose to have a 3yr warranty *crosses fingers*

2 out of 5 eggsRMA Shipping Times is Pathetic

Pros: Big hard drive.

Cons: Hard Drive died after a year.

Other Thoughts: Hitachi was OK with handling the RMA process online without talking to any one. However, compared to Western Digital that ships out immediately, and next day or two day shipping, It has taken Hitachi over ten working days -and I still have not received my hard drive.
Your RMA efficiency leaves a lot to be desired.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks, and Lasts

Pros: This hard drive has lasted me 1 year and 2 months so far. It is fast, and it lasts, and it works. In my setup, its used to store video files, and is constantly in use.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after a year and a half.

Pros: Was a good deal at the time.

Cons: First time I've had a drive die that quickly.

Other Thoughts: After a year and a half this drive died. Waiting on RMA now. Hopefully next one does better. First Hitachi drive I've owned.

2 out of 5 eggsLong term life is poor

Pros: Price - drive was the cheapest when I got it, and Hitachi generally sells products which have a good performance/dollar ratio. The 3 year parts/labor warranty is a definite plus, too.

Cons: I purchased two of these drives back in January of 2010. I own a copy of Hard Disk Sentinel, which I used to monitor the health of these disk drives. About 1.5 years later, one drive is at 14% health and the other is at 41% health, with an expected life of about 50 and 140 days, respectively.

Other Thoughts: In my main tower, I have 4 western digitals and 1 seagate - all of them have been used and functioning for about 4 years now, and all are still at 100% health.

I will be contacting Hitachi's support line soon to see what hoops I need to jump through to make use of the warranty.

2 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy This Drive

Pros: It is a very quiet drive

Cons: This drive sucks. Subject to computer freezes, website freezing, occasional loss of desktop icons and a variety of other plagues. All of these things started happening after I replaced the old drive with this one.

If I could get a refund from Hitachi I would but I doubt they'd give me money back. Instead, they'd probably send me another drive.

Other Thoughts: Thankfully, newegg is no longer selling this drive. NewEgg does a fabulous job with packaging and my next drive, which I will purchase from them, will be a Samsung 1TB drive.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after a year

Pros: It worked for a while.

Cons: Very noisy from the beginning.
7 Months in it became noisier, and I knew it was on it's way out.
It lasted a year before finally dying completely.

Other Thoughts: I doubt I'll be able to, but I'll try for an RMA. I don't think I'll be trusting Hitachi products anymore. Go with a name you know and trust.

2 out of 5 eggsFailure on Delivery

Pros: Really cheap

Cons: It never really worked right. Its loud and freezes up my computer constantly, so I'm gonna get a new one. Can't really complain, i went for the budget and that's what I got. It still works to some extent, so it hasn't died completely, but it took awhile for me to figure out it was the hard drive that was doing it since it was brand new.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. I can't say whether or not they have good customer service to fix it, because i didn't ask. So it wasn't like I'm upset with the product, i just won't be buying another one

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: I used this drive externally installing it in an external case for storage purposes (movies, television series etc.) Drive comes up when pluged into usb within 5-10 seconds and transfers data fairly fast. Really pleased with drive. Of course you never geta full terabyte or full Gigabyte of any drive these days. I wish they would manufacture a terabyte @ 1.2 or something and sell em as 1 terabytes so that when you plug them in it actually shows 1 terabyte (what your bought). Thats an old complaint of mine not likely to be rectified any time soon. I understand some space is set aside for sytem but comeon .. storage drives or slaves should not.

Cons: none to speak of

Other Thoughts: wish I bought two ... good price at the time
