4 out of 5 eggsAs good as you can hope for

Pros: I have had a pair of these running for about 5 or 6 years and have never had an issue. Don't know what more you could ask for in a HD.

Cons: They aren't SSD speed demons, but I knew that going in.

Other Thoughts: I use these for media storage so they spend a lot of time asleep which undoubtedly has improved potential reliability. Nonetheless, I got these for a great price and have more than got my money's worth. Count me as a very satisfied user.

5 out of 5 eggsRMA on order 227535724

Pros: Tech Experts Customer Service was excellent; they quickly resolved my original claim.

Cons: there are no cons!

Other Thoughts: my RMA was handled in a professional and courteous manner, I did not have all the facts on my 1st comment on 4/15 and I would like to say that I will do business with Tech Experts in the future. Please disregard my 1st comment on 4/15.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: According to Backblaze, these drives are supposed to have a low failure rate.

Cons: I ordered two of these and one was dead when it arrived.

Other Thoughts: I'm waiting for a replacement to be shipped by the seller.

5 out of 5 eggsbest drive ever.

Pros: best 2TB I have ever had, it has been oh most 5 years and it is now starting to make noise rattling sounds.

Cons: none has lasted a very long time.

Other Thoughts: i'll be getting another one if i can.

5 out of 5 eggsSpacious and Dependable

Pros: Reliable
Quiet
Spacious
Quick

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these for two different computers well over a year ago. Neither drive has given me any problem in that time. They sometimes take a little while to fire up once they go into their hibernation mode, but once they're seeking, they're quick. I can't hear them over my fans, so that's all I need there. For the price, 2TB of storage is great. I'm pretty sure there's newer models out now, so I won't be buying this drive again, but I will stick with the brand.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed after 2 years and 11.5 months

Pros: Fast

Cons: I bought four of these elsewhere. They saw intermittent use in a RAID5 array. Two weeks prior to the warranty expiration, one of four drives failed due to bad sectors. The drives saw intermittent use only, and were in a good enclosure with good cooling (OWC Qx2 RAID).

Other Thoughts: My data is preserved due to RAID5, and I am able to return the drive for warranty replacement. I count myself lucky, particularly as the backup of this array failed due to a problem with the Habey DS540 enclosure used.

1 out of 5 eggsUnsatisfactory long-term performance

Pros: *Seems* to operate well under nominal conditions

Cons: Out of 20 or so drives used over 3 years, about a 40% failure rate in that time frame. Concurrently bought Samsung and WD models are doing fine.

Other Thoughts: It's not a really scientific analysis, but HGST is on our do-not-buy list until they improve their engineering.
