Travelstar 5K750 is a 5400 RPM, 375GB/platter, 2.5-inch hard drive with capacities of 500GB, 640GB and 750GB. This standard 9.5mm, two-disk design, intended for use in notebook PCs, external storage, gaming consoles and other mobile applications, is Hitachi's first to leverage Advanced Format. Advanced Format increases the physical sector size on hard drives from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes, which increases drive capacities and improves error correction capabilities.

2 out of 5 eggsBarely a Month Old and Already Clicking

Pros: Relatively large capacity (size:price ratio is good given it's a 2.5" HDD).

Cons: Clicking (and associated slow downs or lockups). Feels like it's just a few days away from click of death and complete data loss.

Other Thoughts: Got this as a gift from a friend for my birthday. It's barely two weeks old and I've only used it about 5 times. Was clicking from the get go, but it has only gotten worse.

Now I have to put up with a RMA to Hitachi probably to get a replacement. :(

5 out of 5 eggsHuge, Strong, and Silent

Pros: It's hard to find a drive this size for the price I paid. In fact, most of the 320GB drives were more than this one at the time. On top of that, it's silent. Not a whisper do I ever hear from this big brute. I can't imagine ever filling it up, unless I suddenly go nuts downloading movies! Easy, fast install, already formatted and ready for Windows. I've had it over three months and use it *constantly* - cool, awesome hard drive for your laptop.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Hard drives are man-made machines; they can be bad or go bad, no matter the manufacturer, retailer, etc. One bad one, out of probably a thousand, doesn't mean squat about how the normal drives will perform. Jeez.

5 out of 5 eggsNice drive

Pros: This Hitachi worked just fine when I got it. It's very quiet and I feel like I paid a fair price for it.

Cons: I guess having 2 platters might be a con.

Other Thoughts: I've always had good luck with Hitachi drives. I'm using this in a desktop computer, and I can't tell it's not a desktop drive speed wise.
