5 out of 5 eggsThis is why I Newegg

Pros: Easy return on a defective item. I have never had any issues with Newegg in this, or any other area of doing business with them. They're stuck with me as a customer.

Cons: Well, the item was defective, but that's not the fault of Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Bought this to replace a HDD that had failed in a friends laptop. Was skeptical at first. But I plugged it in and it worked just fine. Was worth the money.

Cons: This thing was packaged pretty bad, it had fallen out of the plastic that was suppose to hold it in place and was freely bouncing around on the box. I was glad that it still worked. Ran a chkdsk on it and found no errors. So I wont doc it an egg for that.

Other Thoughts: I paid $54.99 when I bought this drive.

1 out of 5 eggs"Product serial number does not exist"

Pros: Worked. For 4 months.

Cons: This hard drive constantly clicked and made unusual noises from day one. I had read other reviews that said the same, so I passed on them as an issue and looked past it. However, about 4 months in, my computer would not start up. I tried to re-install windows with no success. I figured this would be a fairly simple solution. After all, the hard drive carried a three year limited warranty. I submitted an RMA on HGST's website only to have them tell me THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE PART DOES NOT EXIST AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. I have been talking to their warranty department and they have told me the same thing. I am livid right now. If you want any kind of customer support I would advise against purchasing this, or any other, HGST device.

Other Thoughts: I will never purchase another product from HGST again. Ever. I would advise anyone in the US looking to be treated as a customer and listened to would do the same.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 2.5" drive

Pros: Though ideal for laptops I use it on my desktop as a storage compliment to my 64GB SSD.

It's low power, low temperature, and very quiet.

Performance isn't a great concern since it's just storing large files and media but the 7200RPM and 16MB cache helps.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: As of March 2013:
Power on count: 487
Power on hours: 6260

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Seems pretty good so far. Pretty fast, decent size.
Scored a 5.8/7.0 on my computer's performance analyzer which seems pretty good (but still the limiting factor on my $300 laptop).

Was pretty much plug and play...right out of the box it was easy to set up windows 7 and get rolling.

Very securely packaged. Pretty sure you could fit a decent sized subwoofer in the box my little drive came in.

Cons: The ONE con I have is that it does occasionally pop and click and sound...sick I guess. I'm a bit worried it's gonna go dead sooner rather than later..if it does I'll update this post if I can figure out how to.

As other posters have mentioned - this hard drive is thinner than most expect so consider that when buying (no big deal, really)

Other Thoughts: I got this on sale for a pretty awesome price and I'd buy another one for the same price if I had the chance. Full price you can probably do better than this drive, but on sale I'd say go for it.

5 out of 5 eggshow i think about this hard drive

Pros: haven't discovered any problems yet since i received this item. shipping was fast.

Cons: the only cons i found was that, this hitachi hard drive had clicking sound when i used it in the first days. but after about one week now i haven't heard any clicking sound again. i was worried so i used HD TUNE PRO to check the health of this hard drive. it passed all the tests and indicators on HD TUNE PRO 5.0. so i'm kinda relieved now. not too worried about it. but in overall i would say it's a good hard drive.

Other Thoughts: one thing i really have to say is that, newegg.com's agent is really kind. when i had the clikcking sound as describes above, they replied fast! which is a good thing because i was worried. im a foreign exchange student from Taiwan and im now studying in the united states. when the hard drive of my laptop broke i was worried because i couldn't do my homework and i cannot talk to my families on facebook. this was the first time for me to buy things from newegg. and i would say their service attitude is really good. my brother suggests me to get a ssd when i was looking for hard drive. but ssd is more expensive very obviously so i think i would get a ssd when next time when i change a new laptop when i enter the university or when the price is more lower and by the time when ssd is more popular so it would be even more cheaper than now. but overall im very satisfied with this hard drive and new egg's kind attitude.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed After 4 Months

Pros: It was decently priced.

Cons: Bought as a replacement for a HP Laptop that had a dead hard disk. Drive lasted for 4 months of very light use without being dropped or abused in anyway and then out of the blue I got a S.M.A.R.T. warning and the drive failed.

1 out of 5 eggsNo advanced replacement factory RMA

Pros: Average drive.

Cons: Drive failed within 6 months. Factory RMA site wouldn't accept my serial number, had to process over the phone. No advanced replacement and had to ship back at my expense. I replaced with a Western Digital as I have had no issues with RMA's from them. Too bad they own HGST and don't follow the same RMA process.
