1 out of 5 eggsNO RELIABILITY

Pros: Amount of storage, price

Cons: Not reliable, used only for backup, very limited hours. Drive now failed after only 12 backups. Backup consists of only using robocopy to copy changed files

Other Thoughts: First Time I have used Hitachi drives. I purchased 2 of these drives to use for backup, since usage would be limited. Should spent more for Seagate or WD.

3 out of 5 eggsFianlly I got 2TB

Pros: I finally found the full 2 TB

Cons: I had to return it because it showed up as having 32GB or something. When I received the replacement it showed 1 Tb and not 2? I was running XP and the toaster style drive holder I was using via eSata only supported 1TB. But after upgrading my MB I discovered that even under Win 7 Pro it only showed 1 TB?

After a bit of web detective work I found that a utility Ddat2 lite was able to unlock and reveal the full capacity of the drive! Kind of a scary looking utility to use by the seat of your pants. I wouldn't do it with data on it.

What in the H*LL is this all about???

Are they making 2TB drives and then setting the capacity depending upon what they need to sell that week?

1 out of 5 eggsDrive failed.

Pros: Large drive

Cons: Drive started failing 11 months after use. I started getting windows errors and upon diagnosis had many bad sectors. Very disappointed.

Other Thoughts: I thought this was a higher quality drive. Very disappointed in the early failure. Customer service is only open during normal business hours for hitachi so hard to get a hold of them since most of us work during that time.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive Failure - clicking noise

Pros: Worked fine for 1 1/2 years.

Cons: Clicking failure.

Other Thoughts: I've never had a hard drive fail, even ones that I've used for 7+ years. But this one developed a click and every time I turn on my computer Windows want me to do a chkdisk. All of my 5 drives are Hitachi, which I paid more for because I believed the quality/reliability is better. I don't think I'll order another Hitachi drive. Although I used to work for company that designs network storage solutions in 2010 and at that time Hitachi was the fastest drives you could buy and they survived more vibration tests than most of the other drives. Maybe they'll be better now that WD owns the company...I've never had any problems with their drives.

1 out of 5 eggs2 Drives Failed

Pros: None

Cons: High Failure Rate - Bought 2 of these drives and both died within a week of putting these into service.

Bought these drives a while ago for building new servers. Was not to happy when my only 2 2 Terabyte drives failed so badly.

5 out of 5 eggsBoth Working Good So Far

Pros: I bought two of these for a mirrored drive backup using a Synology DS712. Installed them and so far both are working fine. You can find negative reviews on every hard drive out there. So a labored through a number of reviews. I bought these because the expert reviews I found indicated they were well built a suitable for a back up system. If they break early I will try to remember to post another review.

Cons: So far the only con would be that the expert reviews I found indicated they are a slower than other drives. They are fast enough for my backup purposes.

Other Thoughts: If you want reliability in your back ups get yourself a mirrored backup system.
