2 out of 5 eggsbrand new died, RMA DOA as well

Pros: Nice drive, good price, good capacity.

Cons: It would be nice if I could power it on. Power supply went out on my brand new drive, and the one I got from warranty is DOA. I am not going to open the case to see if the SATA power connector is disconnected because it will void the warranty. VERY disappointed in quality would NOT buy another unless Hitachi makes it up to me I am not looking forward to spending another $15 to ship this second DOA box back.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a deal!

Pros: Works great! I mainly use it to store stuff.

Cons: none, write speed it decently quick.

Other Thoughts: Keep in a cool area since heat and HDD's don't mix well.

5 out of 5 eggs2tb for reasonable price

Pros: - Good price
- Very quiet

Cons: - A bit bulky
- Case is plastic. Not a bad sort of plastic, but my other 2tb drive has a nice solid metal casing for far less
- No eSATA

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. In this case it's not a bad thing at all.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive inside (Deskstar 7K3000)

Pros: Price
The drive inside is a HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723020BLA642 (0f12115) 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"

It currently costs twice as much to buy that drive bare than it does to just get this external.

Drive has been running fine for the past few days.
Using it as a boot drive and the single drive feels snappier than my previous 2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11s in RAID0 and the WEI didn't change.

Cons: Runs hotter than my Samsung EcoDrives, but that's to be expected. ~25c is certainly not bad at all though, so this isn't really anything to worry about.

Other Thoughts: I never plugged this drive in externally; I immediately tore it open and got the bare drive out to use internally. Please note that if you plan on doing that, it is near impossible to open it without damaging the case and will most likely void your warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Far, So Good!

Pros: I bought this to serve as a backup for my Mac internal HD and my external drives. I'm a Mac guy, so, the first thing I did was reformat it and partition it.

So far, so good. This thing "looks" nice, though the case is plastic, not metal. It's WHISPER QUIET. The thing is so quiet, I'm thinking about buying another one and ditching my older and noisier external drives. I'm backing up 200 gigs of data as we speak and I'm not hearing the ka-chunk sounds my other external drives make. I've only had this for a week, but I'm thrilled with it.

Cons: My only complaint is the silly USB cable. I've never seen such a short cable. I actually laughed when I first saw the thing. If you're not going to sit this next to your computer or a usb hub, you're going to need a USB extension cable.

Other Thoughts: I wish Newegg didn't have a 1 per customer limit on this when I bought it. The price has gone up by $30 since then. Still, I'm pleased enough that I'm thinking of buying a second one.

5 out of 5 eggsout of the box!

Pros: Tested it right out of the box to see how fast this thing really is!
First, rig: Lanboy Air with ASUS Crosshair IV, AMD x6 @ 3.96 GHz, 8GB HyberX Blu DDR3 1600 running @ 1333 for stability, and ASUS CuCORE 5770 graphics card.

Moving one 55GB encrypted file from Raptor 300GB, 10000 RPM hard drive (not boot drive, internal) to this external HDD through USB 3.0: avg 110-115 MB/s (about 8.5 minutes). Moving music files (20GB of them) from external USB 3.0 WD 2.5 HDD: 48-50 MB/s (about 7 minutes).

Now, both at the same time, both downloads kept their average speed for a while. Large file dropped to about 60MB/s, which is good for one HDD reading/writing. Again, just redid the downloads to run at the same time. I was curious since I multitask a lot.

Design is sleek enough, has anti-skid rubber underneath, and power cord is pretty long.

Includes backup software, for those that migth need it.

Great buy, especially if you consider the sheer size and its speed!

Oh, it

Cons: USB cord is not too long, but enough for my purposes. And I have to input some information here...

Other Thoughts: Bought it at $80 on sale. Cheapest USB 3.0 I have seen on the market. HDD actual speed is advertised close to 5GB/s, making it a pretty cheap hard drive for its price (even at regular price, $130).

Shipping, as usual, fast!!

I read some negative reviews. I guess if it fails, I will return it, but I do not foresee that right now.

Again, tested right out of the box! Hope the review helps.

4 out of 5 eggsNot A DOA problem!

Pros: Transfers are fast, price is cheap, sata to usb3 adapter can be used for other drives if you decide to pull it out of the enclosure.(I did as I just wanted the drive didn't care about external.)

Cons: Like similar externals in larger sizes, often times in shipping or maybe during assembly the internal connections between the usb/sata controller and the actual hard drive become disconnected. This is why people are thinking its DOA when really its just a connection issue. Open the case, reattach the sata and sata power connections and tada the drive is fixed. The other option is to pull out the drive to use inside your system(something I would recommend for better performance.).

Other Thoughts: Before you go screaming bloody murder over something not working, try to take a few minutes to figure out is it truly doa/bad drive or if its actually just a simple measure to fix. Yes warranty is void the moment you open the enclosure however most hard drive manufacturers are willing to replace the drive within the first year of ownership as these drives are all OEM so 1 year warranty only. which is about the same warranty most of these externals carry on them so less crying wolf and more acceptance that your getting a good drive at a great price just need to take it out of the box to get the most for your money. If you don't believe me, post the drive to craigslist for 100 dollars and I bet you will sell that drive quicker than you could spend the $130 to purchase it in the first place.

2 out of 5 eggsown

Pros: works great if attached only to a computer does not work when attached to anything else

Cons: tried to plug into a boxee and my tv. would not recognize so although it is nice as a drive on the computer it did not work like my other brands of external drives. i called both the drive and boxee manufacturers who were very nice but unable to answer the question

4 out of 5 eggs2nd Time is the Charm

Pros: One of the least expensive 2TB USB 3.0 external drives. So far, so good with this unit.

Cons: Very short power cable. Very short USB 3.0 cable. *Seems* slower than other USB 3.0 2TB drives I've used. Getting 59MB/sec at the moment transferring several small-ish files.

Other Thoughts: This is my second attempt using this model.. first one I received was DOA. Newegg rocks with the RMA process, only took a few days and a new unit was here! Shame about having to pay return shipping though..
