1 out of 5 eggsWorthless!

Pros: Used/refurbished or repaired drive, good for a drop in on an older system as the need arises. Price.

Cons: Manufacturing date of 12/06!!! Nearly 6 years old and already used and abused. What would be the point of selling refurbished drives of THAT age? I mean seriously.

And I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that this is from Hitachi as a refurb. Most of all the hard drive manufacturers that I have dealt with on refurbs only sell those within the drive's original warranty period, that have been repaired or returned and reconditioned, etc. Not bloody 6 years old already! Seems to me this these are coming from a third party repair or reclaim/recycle or something, especially since I see a repeating pattern in the reviews. Won't be making this mistake again. This one didn't even carry a typical marker on the label stating that it was refurbished, etc. Looked like an original drive label.

Not only that, this drive failed diagnostics. My software tool (GWScan 5.12) was able to repair the sector errors, but I can't trust the drive at all. I mean come on!

Other Thoughts: Basically just a huge waste of my time and money buying this. Not sure who is to blame, but as far as this review goes, its bad.

Sure, you get some bad drives sometimes, but I have a feeling more bad than good came out of this batch. Take a gamble if you feel to. Better off buying new or getting a proper refurb from the actual manufacturer, which is what I thought I was getting. This certainly wasn't.

3 out of 5 eggsSo far it works

Pros: So far it works but its only been a couple of weeks. Formatted fine and no funny noises -yet. Not sure if I trust it enough to put an OS on it though...

Cons: None so far but lets see if it lasts.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK

Pros: Some Work

Cons: I don't really think these are "refurbished". They just look like old hard drives someone pulled from equipment.

I ordered 6 thinking I would get 5 good ones, but 3 our of 6 are DOA. 2 don't power up or register in BIOS. 1 has click of death.

The other 3 have passed a cursory diagnostic, but the are dated 2006 - 2007 so as has been mentioned elsewhere they have a lot of hours on them.

Other Thoughts: I knew I shouldn't buy used hard drives. But, with Hitachi's reliability record and the cost of new I took a chance... and lost.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It works. Used as a back-up drive with a docking station. So far, runs quiet enough. No issues when warmed up. No funny noises, or smells. Its a Hitachi.

Cons: Shows a lot of 'use' on the outside.

Other Thoughts: It is a used drive, it could last a very long time, or not.

3 out of 5 eggsNice drive if you get a good one.

Pros: These were on sale so I bought 2. They are for my PPC G5. I simply copied the original drive to one of these and now that is my main drive. Its quieter and seems to be a tad quicker. The original drive was getting noisy - NOT a good sign, so its now in storage.

Cons: Of 2 drives bought at the same time, one was dead in the box. I'm going through the RMA/ exchange process with Newegg. No hassles there.

Other Thoughts: Its a refurb, so I guess it goes with the territory. Still, having 1 of 2 disks DOA, refurb or not isn't a good way to start. The working drive is dead (sorry) quiet and quick. Long term... we'll see.

1 out of 5 eggsAre you kidding me?

Pros: It works.

Cons: This drive has over 45,000 hours on it and a manufacturing date of 2006. I don't know about you but "refurbished" does not mean "6 years old and running for all of those 6 years."

What a joke.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointment thy name is Hitachi

Pros: The only pro here was that I ordered it from NewEgg so I knew that the RMA process would be simple.

Cons: Tisk, Tisk, Hitachi... I ordered this drive for a client where speed and price were a factor but drive space was not. This item seemed to fit the bill. However, Hitachi dropped the ball on this one.

The drive arrived in a very, very poor state. The static-free bag it was wrapped in was no seal. The drive was scratched, scuffed, and dirty. There was grime and dirt in the corners and looked like it had been pulled from an old server and sent to me.

I thought, "Wow, you get what yo pay for!" yet I plugged it in and I got the click of death from the drive: Spins up and then click, click, click, click... Not a good sign. The computer wouldn't even get through the POST while it tried to ID the drive.

Luckily, I had a spare drive I could swap for this so my client could be up and running even though Hitachi left me down.

Other Thoughts: I have ordered thousands of items from NewEgg in my business and I can count on one hand the number of items I have had to send back because of a defect. Newegg can only sell what they are given so I do not hold them responsible this poor part from Hitachi.

When I contacted NewEgg, explained the situation, they helpfully had an RMA and UPS tag in my email within 20 mins.

I think the fact that I can count on one hand the number of bad parts I have had is a testament to the QA NewEgg puts on their suppliers.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Great Price! Just what I wanted to make an external drive for my x-box.

Cons: 80gb drive would only format (read and write) 20gb. Tried to format it on my computer without success.

RMA's it for a replacement.....cost me $10 in postage for a $30 item.

Other Thoughts: Great deal if you get one that works.

5 out of 5 eggsViable replacement for a customer at a good price.

Pros: Ordered as a replacement drive for a 80 G WD HDD (Western Digital) worked as promised and included a random SATA HDD USB 2.0 Docking station which was neat but generally useless to a real techy. Overall 5 stars for me it got the job done and had a bonus too :)

Cons: Really the only con is that the docking station included was only compatible with 3.5" SATA drives only, if you want to create real value with techys then include one that does IDE as well but thx for trying anyways :)

Other Thoughts: Good stuff, buy it if you dont use alot of space and need a cheap replacement.
