1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Packaging looked good, great $/gb.

Cons: DOA, clicks and spins but won't connect to multiple MOBOs. Oh well, I've spent $15 on worse paperweights.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: runs quiet. I was worried this drive might have a whining sound since it was a refurbished model , but it does not. It is quiet as a mouse. I am glad I ordered this hard drive. Great for extra storage!

Cons: none can think of other than I wished I ordered two since price is up $10.00 more now.

5 out of 5 eggsBought 2 - No Problems

Pros: I bought 2 of these. Hooked them up to 2 old AMS Venus IDE hard drive enclosures. Connected the USB, formatted, and they run great. I've bought at least 6 refurbushed HD's from Newegg...Maxtor's, now the HGST(Hitachi). What else can I say...NO problems with any of them. A 120 GB refurb. Maxtor is the OS drive on my wife's Dell computer. Runs every bit as good as the old drive that was in it.

Cons: Admittedly, I've had this less than 1 week as I type this. I suppose it could fail next time I turn it on. Though I've yet to have a refurbished drive fail. Yeah...yeah...I know, a lot of you have had nothing but bad luck with refurbished drives. Everyone you get doesn't work..I've read those reviews many times.

Other Thoughts: These are used as external storage drives. 250 GB may be too small for most of you, but for me, I'm using one of the two kinda sorta like a giant USB flash drive. The 2nd HGST drive is used on top of my wife's computer for storing her girlie things. Look at the price Newegg is charging for these. My gosh, where can you find 250 GB cheaper? Get a cheap IDE enclosure and a few of these drives and use them for storage. You don't have to use these as your main external storage. Use them for put away storage. They should last almost indefinitely if used like this. In about 2 weeks, if Newegg still has any for the price I paid for my 2, I'm getting at least 2 more. 250 GB = 232 GB in it's true size. That's a lot of DVD's in 1 small container. Yes, that's the way I look at it.

5 out of 5 eggsRefurbished? Looks new.

Pros: Ran HDD Sentinel. According to it, the drive I got was brand new. It was powered on and off a total of 11 times and had a remaining life span of over 1,000 days which is what all brand new drives are at. Although the Health meter has it at 92% which is not where new drives are, its performance rating is 100%.

Cons: None. For $10 and no mail in rebate, this is a great deal despite it being ATA 133 and only having 8 MB cache. It is perfect for backing up large files that do not need a fast drive. Price per gigabyte is 4 cents compared to a typical brand new 250 GB 3.5" SATA III drive of around $0.25/GB. It is also cheaper than a high capacity USB drive and easier to use than burning DVDs or Blu-Rays. Not to mention the fact you can erase and re-write to it.

Other Thoughts: This is the 3rd refurbished ATA-133 HDD I have purchased from newegg. All 3 worked great, but this is the first one with an expected life span of more than 1,000 days. The other 2 were both Western Digital (160GB and 400GB).

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to 12/21/12 Review

Pros: This was a replacement for the drive that arrived DoA in my 12/21/12 review.

Drive arrived intact, no damage to packaging.
Installed, loaded o/s, drive runs like new.

As with most refurbished products it's a shot in the dark (probably even more-so considering the age of this particular technology).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I'd like to thank Newegg for handling the replacement of this drive in the fashion they did. I've always held their customer service as one of the best in the industry and continue to do so.

Other Thoughts: Arrived with intact packaging, drive clicks and isn't recognized by BIOS. Ah well, that's what I get for going Refurb.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive was DoA

Pros: None.

Cons: Drive arrived with no damage to packaging.
Installed and powered up - consistent head slaps.

Other Thoughts: Refurb product, so the only surprise is that it was shipped with this particular defect.
