5 out of 5 eggsLegit refurb - ZERO power on hours

Pros: Good value ( got these for $50)
Work great so far, got 4 and running them in a RAID10
Read speeds of about 280MB/s and write at about 250-230MB/s
0 power on hours - these ate true refurbs, not "used" drives like many sell
on that have not been back to the factory they are just simply used
Good customer service.
Performance is pretty consistent across the drives for being used.
With the price of these drives you can replace them a few times before you hit the cost of a new 2TB drive.
1 year warranty from OEM (HGST) not some random 3rd party.

Cons: The second time I ordered I got shipped 2011 models (not 2013). The drives were good but this was not desirable as the first two were 2013 models and I want to be consistent across the RAID array. Customer service was great, read pros.
One drive had about 10% slower performance than others (the other 3 were identical) this is to be expected with 2013 refurb drives, though, Im wondering if this one will fail sooner than the others.

Other Thoughts: I would buy these drives from this seller (go to hard drive i think) as they come with 0 power on hours in SMART. Others being sold directly from ( not this seller) Newegg come with 900 days of power on time! Not cool, though they are cheaper.

4 out of 5 eggsgood for the price

Pros: still going strong after about a month of usage. The health of the drive is rated as "good.' Speed is pretty much as expected from a hard drive just make sure you use a usb 3 cable for best speeds if you use as an external.

Cons: Little on the noisy side. I use it on an external dock on top of desk so it is near me but even so it does make noise particuarly when writing data. I have other drives that are near silent. Might not matter if placed inside a tower. Also the noise isn't terribly distracting. Just enough to be noticeable during periods of long use. I tend to notice it and just as quickly forget about it.

Other Thoughts: Using this for extra storage for my ever growing steam collection. So i occasionally leave it running all night for those large downloads. Haven't had any trouble with it all. Just remember with any refurb you take your chances regardless of ratings. Its all a matter of is the price worth the risk. Will update if the drive begins having problems but for now i'd say worth it. Oh and fyi i got it from newegg flash for $45 with free shipping.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA...

Pros: Large capacity, Inexpensive

Cons: Didn't work.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, I was busy during the return period for this drive. I hadn't purchased a faulty drive so I wasn't concerned. But once I discovered that it didn't work, it was too late. :-(

5 out of 5 eggs4 Drives all Good

Pros: I bought 4 of these drives, all tested good ran a program to look at the smart stats on each drive. All showed just two power ups. Which is how many times I booted my computer on testing them. Crystal Diskmark showed around 130 MB/s Read and Write with a Sata 2 controller I believe these are Sata 2 drives anyway. Sata 2 will max out at around 270 MB/s. So most HDD will never get close to sata 3 speeds unless they are a hybrid with SSD built into it. I have a 1 TB Sata 3 Seagate Drive that will get to 179 read and write speeds. one of these as a single drive is plenty fast to max out any 1 Gb/s Nas set up. On a raid 5 with a 9650 SE controller using all 4 drives I get 389mB/s Read and 214 MB/s write. Software raid 0 I get 508 MB/s read and 441 MB/s write. I am going to buy another 5th Drive and use these in Raid 6 on the 9650 SE controller on Ubuntu Server.

Cons: Laying flat on my work table the drives got to 50 C. ambient temps around 74 to 76. I believe its possible the failures people may be having is they are not giving these drives enough air and they are getting to hot... If you don't have a nice case like a node 304 with good airflow I recommend you rig some fans blowing right on the drives. Should increase there life span.

Other Thoughts: These are not the fastest drives, but for 50 dollars for 2 TB who cares. I use a Samsung 840 SSD 240 GB for my operating system and will be using these drives to store movies and larger files on a separate server... The next big purchase will be another similar system to be used as my Back up server.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks - Faster than old drive

Pros: Cheap
Quick
Good Reliability (from other users)
Did I mention cheap...

Cons: Slightly louder than expected (my wife says "your computer sounds like a coffee pot...")

Other Thoughts: This drive has boosted my overall user experience by a noticeable amount. My system boots faster, accesses programs faster, and also loads standard documents/files faster.

I was running an old SATA drive that had seen many thousands of hours of use, I guess I hadn't realized how slow it had gotten.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking fine.

Pros: Inexpensive per Tb.

Cons: None at this point.

Other Thoughts: I have two - one installed in my workstation and one in a fan-cooled Rosewell external eSATA enclosure. They have been up and running as data drives 24/7 for two months. No issues from these refurbished drives.
