1 out of 5 eggsSlow slow slow

Pros: Fast shipment from Newegg.

Cons: Slow slow slow

Other Thoughts: It worked fine when I first received it, however after putting a couple terabyte on it, it is terribly slow. Worse drive ever, giving me nothing but headaches and buyers remorse.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this HDD

Pros: 4TB's at a low price.

Cons: No power button.
Freezed all the time.
Freezing so much now im sure its going to die soon.
Freezes up my computer when shut down or even boot up to the point that i have to unplug it to kill what ever processes it's so slowly trying to compute.

Other Thoughts: I gave it 3 Eggs before, if i could now i would give it 0

It was fast when i got it, its so slow now that everything i do takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

It's going to die soon.

Do not buy this drive. Waste of money.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, The Touro product does not have a on/off button, however the drive should hibernate after 10-12 minutes of inactivity. As for the freezing, this could be a combination of items, especially if you are using in a Windows 8 environment. Please contact Technical Support for troubleshooting help. http://www.hgst.com/support/contact-support

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible product

Pros: None

Cons: No on/off switch, must unplug power cord to turn off. Drive failed after 5 months of usage. Have to submit RMA on HGST to get replacement drive.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Drive, DO NOT BUY

Pros: NONE

Cons: This drive does not work well with USB 2.0. In fact it kept locking up the system and now the drive has failed. Of course this drive fails in 34 days, just outside of Newegg's policy. This will be the last time I buy this brand of drive, and probably be one of my last purchases from Newegg!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, if you are still having trouble with the product would you mind reaching out to our Technical Support team. We would be happy to assist you in troubleshooting and setting up a replacement if needed. Technical Support: 1-888-426-5214

2 out of 5 eggsYou get what you are paying for

Pros: Price and decent space

Cons: As the previous reviewer I have to concur that the lack of power on/off switch is a big overlook. I have very old Western Digital 320GB portable HD (about 5 years old) with the switch and still rocks and the speeds are just about the same as Touro +/- 5MB. There are issues with input and output.. I had on Touro few clud folders like Dropbox, Copy, SkyDrive, Box (not Dav) and Baidu... I get errors every 15 minutes to point where is the folder. Same issues, refreshing.
It must be unplugged (both AC power and USB port cable. to get working again.)
Unusable. It is only as good as USB 2. period. Actually my old (and i have many) USB 2 portable HD's are working much, much better. I wouldn't dare installing linux or any other operating system on this one here.
Final Thing. No input output problems when connected to USB 2 port mhhh ;-)
Here is another though... My other portable USB 3.0 HD's change the blue light to white when in USB 2 mode.. Not this one.
Trust me i have no Hardware issues on my computer. In total I own 3 USB 3.0 HD, all of them over 1,5 TB. and only this one gives me the much unneeded headache.

Other Thoughts: This is not a crucial thing. But windows (in my case Win 7001 Pro x64) doesn't know how to partition this; Errors that do not apply (MFT) with empty space.. . Easeus Partitioner did it in 10 seconds (I sliced into 2 even drives)
I cannot judge the overheating problems because thus far all is OK. and i own this only for about 4 weeks.
Touro Cloud????.. Read up above.. about "cloud" sync. issues

3 out of 5 eggsSlow - Unsure of Dependability - Cheap

Pros: 4Tb's at a low price. Made by Hitachi which is a seemingly trusted brand.

Cons: *Before you read, let it be known that my computer is a beast. None of these issues are related to any internal hardware. thank you. now read.*

No on off switch - If you want to disconnect it you literally unplug the USB or Power, which at any time the HDD could be running, i feel very uneasy doing so. (and you have to a lot w/ this drive cause it freezes during loading or won't mount)

Slow slow slow slow - It takes about 2 to 5 minutes every time you want to open it to refresh itself (i have about 3.5 tb's used) when you have a lot of space used up. This is normal for a E-HDD but this one will do it even after its refreshed. I will literally open a folder, wait a minute, hit back, open the same folder and some times it will take even longer to refresh.

Lag Explorer.exe crash. <- says it all. It will take so long to refresh at times it crashed my explorer.

Mounting issues - When i boot my pc (this just started happening) the dang thing doesnt even mount. Windows will recognize it but it wont mount. That means i have to UNPLUG THE POWER while the HDD is spinning and loading to get it to work... w...t...h... im guessing its not the HDD itself, but the USB interface.

Other Thoughts: With everything I've said in the Cons section starting to arise (lag, slow loading, not mounting and having to DC the power, freezing) I'm afraid this HDD is going to die and all my valuable information is going to die with it. Buy at your own risk. I'd stick with Western Digital or Seagate. I don't trust Samsung after i had a HDD die twice in a 3 month span and the third arrival was DOA (this was before their refurbish as new scam came to light)

1 out of 5 eggsBuy for the drive forget using as external

Pros: Worked fine at first. After a month of use playing movies via XBMC, the device would become unresponsive. Had to reboot for it to work again. Happened several times. Past the 30 day return by a couple weeks, so had to RMA with HGST. Ill just crack the case and remove the drive this next time. Drive is probably fine, but it was running hot when i was using it, so ill take my chances on getting a refurb back from HGST.

Cons: Runs Hot
Stopped working
Had to reboot several times to get device to work again

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. I am not sure if you have contacted our Technical Support team, but we would be happy to help troubleshoot the product and set up an RMA if needed. Contact us at: 1-888-426-5214

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems here...

Pros: Lots of storage, USB 3.0, plug n play..almost (see below)

Cons: No on/off switch. Cords a little short.

Other Thoughts: After reading about the CRYPTOLOCKER virus I decided an external HD back up was in order. I've had this drive for about 2 weeks now and I have burned about 3 TB to it already without incident. I initially had a problem when writing to the drive where there would be about 5 sec pauses, resume for 10 sec, pause for 5 sec, etc...In this case the fix was to enable write caching for the external drive. I accessed thois option by going to device manager and clicking on the policies tab for this driv.

My OS in Win 7 64bit. I have this drive plugged into a Startech PCIe USB 3.0 adapter card as my MB doesn't support USB 3.0.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA!

Pros: I already had 4 of this drives and they have been working for fine for about 6 months.

Cons: DOA!

Other Thoughts: So, I bought one more and this time, it came DOA! Since it costs me roughly $14 to ship back this defective product, it deserves zero ratting!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we apologize about this inconvenience about a drive that was DOA, especially since you already have 4 other products. Did you retun to NewEgg or did you return to HGST?
