5 out of 5 eggsBest Compromise

Pros: This drive is fast, quiet, and there's plenty of space for that awesome *adult* collection you have acquired over the years.

Cons: It doesn't come with lube.

Other Thoughts: Seriously, I think this is a great drive and it is the best compromise when there are size restrictions.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: I Purchased this to replace the hard drive in a Mac Book Pro for a Dual Boot Configuration. I am about to get another for a small build I am working on. This drive is very responsive and has the capacity I need. If you can't afford a high capacity SSD or the 10,000 RMP version, this is a great alternative.

Cons: Not really a con towards the product but a bit of a con for the Travelstar line, I have yet to find any version of the 7200 RPM drives in the line that have 64 or 128 Megs of Ram.

Other Thoughts: There are versions of the 10,000 RPM Drives with greater amounts of cashe but the price is way out there at the moment.

5 out of 5 eggsThe greatest laptop hard drive, ever.

Pros: -Speed. This thing flies. This is desktop level performance in something a fraction of the size. I copied files over to this from my SSD in my desktop, and was constantly getting between 110-120MB/sec. I installed Windows 7 with all new drivers, Office 2013 and all updates for both Windows and Office, required and optional. With a 2.8GHz C2D and 4GB of RAM, my Dell Studio XPS 1640 defragmented in under 20 minutes after running disk cleanup. Simply astounding.

-Smoothness. Although I haven't run benchmarks yet, I can only imagine how low the seek times are on this drive. It really eliminates the unpredictable responsiveness you get out of a laptop, even a pricey one. The only thing better is an SSD, but using this drive, everything runs like butter. Never any hitches, and it simply doesn't choke under heavy multitasking loads like the others.

-Reliability. Hitachi's desktop drives are trash, but there's a reason people are so loyal to Travelstars. After all my years being a tech, WD and Hitachi Travelstar drives are the only ones I put right at the top.

-Beats out a mile. I have a WD Black 320GB in another laptop I use. The drive is only a few months old, and it can't even compete with this thing. The Black feels like a high end laptop drive, this feels like a high end desktop drive. The Black's seek time is much worse, and you really notice it in day to day use.

Cons: -Hottest running laptop drive out there. The incredible heat matches the incredible speed. This thing might make a very heat sensitive model have issues in some conditions. Go ahead, hook it up to your desktop, copy files over, and touch it - yep, even with a fan blowing, it's hot.

My Dell Studio XPS 1640 gets crazy hot on the bottom left corner - the magnesium chassis basically acts as a giant heatsink...The top of the drive makes full blown contact with the chassis, and it shows. You really feel it.

If your laptop is old, dust it thoroughly, and replace the thermal compound, or have a qualified technician do so if it involves gutting the machine. Dried compound and this drive combined is basically a recipe for physical discomfort, or at worst, overheating. In many laptops, the heat thing this produces will spread throughout the machine.

Other Thoughts: I have been fixing and building computers for over ten years and have multiple industry certifications. I have repaired many laptops and I can state for a fact that this drive IS worth every penny. The price is steep for a reason - this is a true blue premium product, a rarity in today's world of commodity PC hardware. It will make a five year old machine feel better than brand new. The responsiveness and performance are unmatched, but just be sure to manage the heat. Once you get this thing up and running, you won't care about it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: - 1tb
- 32mb cache
- 7200rpm
- Notebook HDD
- 9.5mm

Cons: - Not 2tb

Other Thoughts: I used this drive to create a Fusion Drive on a MacBook Pro coupled with an older SSD that I had laying around. The issue with doing this is that you need a 12.5mm drive or smaller and most 2.5" HDD's in the larger 1tb-2tb capacity are 15mm. This drive also has 32mb of cache and 7200rpm, which is plus considering most other drives in this capacity range are 5400rpm and 8mb cache. I usually buy WD products, but with this drives price and specs I wanted to give it a try.

5 out of 5 eggshgst laptop drive

Pros: reliable drives, I've used a dozen or so of their drives over the years both 2.5 & 3.5 from 80GB to 1TB have never had a problem with any of them. All drive problems I've had over the years have been with Maxtor/Seagate. I highly recommend these over one of those brands.

Cons: haven't had one

5 out of 5 eggsGood bang for your buck

Pros: I purchased one for my PS3 over a year ago and the drive has been running without any problems. The speed is great and the size has been large enough to handle all of my DLC and PS-Plus downloads with hundreds of gigs to go. I imagine that this drive would also work just as well in a laptop.

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: I just purchased a second for my PS4 since this drive is compatible with both systems and I have been very happy with the performance, so I decided to write a review about it.

2 out of 5 eggsI won't buy it again

Pros: fast.

Cons: After a couple of months, the disk starts making clicking sound. I'm a bit nervous since I have already put a lot of data in the disk.

Because of its high RPM, it consumes more battery power.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect PS4 replacement drive

Pros: Fast 7200rpm and 32MB cache, SATA6 so its speedy, used this 9.5mm height for PS4 replacement , the ps4 has a 5400rpm 8m cache 500gig , this one blows it right away, fits perfect and is very fast in comparison to the original,, for normal laptop use it would be fast also as it is higher spindle speed than 90% of other 2.5" drives.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Price is right, not too much got it for 79 on a rebate special, with shipping it was 83.00 at the store it is about the same price, if your looking to update your PS4 or even a PS3 or a laptop, this is the perfect drive due to its high spindle speed 7200rpm, and 32MB cache and its a 1TB drive on a 9.5mm chassis, not the new 1tb drives that are 12mm high and don't fit in anything. go for it, its a good drive

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: It went into my Playstation 4 replacing the 500GB 5400rpm drive, so far it's good and some games load a little faster.

Cons: Adds a little heat, otherwise none so far.

Other Thoughts: Going with a large capacity 7200rpm drive is more ideal than an expensive SSD for the PS4 since every disc you put into it installs the game anyhow and most games are reaching 40-50GB in size and my 2 week old PS4 already had ~100GB free left and I'm planning on getting a few titles this fall.

Don't bother with hybrid SSD/HDD drives, they're not worth it for the PS4.
