5 out of 5 eggsSmall, Fast, Great Value

Pros: Very fast 7200 rpm drives in 9.5mm 2.5" form factor. Large 32MB Cache. Fits most any laptop. All 5 worked perfectly, no DOAs.

Cons: Not SSD

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality Drive

Pros: A 1TB Drive in a 2.5" form-factor that runs @ 7200 RPM. My needs for this was great as a secondary drive inside my MBP for a Audio Production Sound Library.

Cons: Poor quality. The day I received & installed the drive, it FAILED immediately. I/O errors left & right. I said to myself maybe a lemon....could have been a one off. So via RMA I had the drive replace.....and after install.....again FAILED.......I/O errors. they both stopped mounting after minutes of installation.

Other Thoughts: Proceed With Caution if you choose to purchase this drive. It's unfortunate that this drive isn't up to par with what many reviews state. I understand it's a very difficult goal to reach for manufacture to create 2.5" platters @ 1TB that push speeds of 7200 RPM.....this is probably why these specs are so scarce. Hopefully the Technology improves.....or just might have to go the SSD route.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: The HDD was delivered fast and was easy to install. It took the image perfectly and has been running great. My wife has really enjoyed the added size as well since her old HDD was 250GB.

Cons: None, and I really mean none.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and stable

Pros: Fast, small, and very energy efficient.

Bought 4 of these for a Synology DS411slim, installed them when the arrived, setup the hybrid-RAID array, and was dumping data to them at ridiculous speeds in minutes.

Cons: None yet. Will post if any problems occur.

Other Thoughts: The technology on these drives came from the IBM Travelstar line prior to it being purchased by Hitatchi. They've maintained a fairly high quality and have lowered the price a lot over the years while maintaining the value and increasing capacity. Yes, all vendors in the drive business do that, but I can't say I personally have ever had any issues with Travelstar units.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat for 2 Months

Pros: When it ran it ran great as promised. It was bigger and faster than the drive it replaced and ran cooler. It got 2 eggs because I am assuming that the manufacturer's warranty will be eventually honored.

Cons: * Failed after 2 months of normal use.
* Failed outside of Newegg.com standard warranty so shipping cost to manufacturer is mine.
* Spent $60 to get another professional with recovery tools, to get son's data off of drive.
* Days of diagnostics and attempts to get it working again using WD disk tools, time cost, mine. Ended up spending more than it was worth to try and get it going again.

Other Thoughts: I ended up spending more than the purchase price in trying to get the data off of the failed drive. Days trying to recover the drive using WD drive recovery software only to find that it had unrecoverable sector errors. Maybe I should have spent a little more to get a better drive, but then I thought I was.

This Laptop is for my son's for his digital art work, so maybe he will learn to back his work up after this? ;-) Prior drive was old and had "Click of Death" (nonrecoverable).

I am getting to the point where if I know it is in any way related to WD I will avoid it. I was actually hesitant when I saw that there was a relationship when purchasing this one. Prior to this experience I knew Hitachi as a good brand.

In general, it really annoys me when I pay for a new product, it fails in a short time and then gets replaced with a refurbished piece of junk. Hopefully I will get a replacement that performs as "new" should be this time.

Now to wait for the replacement, so i can rebuild his Laptop again and maybe convince him to invest in an external backup drive. At least I have a current set of recovery disks... only 2 months old... ;-)

2 out of 5 eggsBig and fast... but...

Pros: Very fast. Big drive.

Cons: Failed after a month in a MacBook Pro. Siezed up completely.

Other Thoughts: Hitachi was quick to issue a warranty replacement, which arrived today, and it seems to be running fine so far. Doing some testing before I clone the customer's Mac over to it and reinstall, but so far so good (hence 2 eggs, if this one lasts I'll be happy to bump it up higher, but that first failure left a bad taste in my mouth).

5 out of 5 eggsNice deal

Pros: Works as promised and is fast scores in the 19000 range on my HD tests and I have a hybrid 750 that scores 20000 so to get close in that range is awesome the 6gb transfer rate and the 32 cache helps.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great deal

5 out of 5 eggsGave my MacBook Pro extra spunk

Pros: 1TB, 32MB Cache, 9.5mm high, quiet, 7200 RPM, 3 year warranty.

This replaced a 1TB 8MB Cache, 5400 RPM WD drive I was using in my MacBook Pro. This drive gives my MacBook Pro more spunk than the other drive did. Boot-Up and Shut Down are faster and coping files is much faster than before. Even defragging the drive is much quicker. This drive seems cooler than the WD I had in it. My MacBook Pro no longer hangs as much as it used when accessing files and opening applications.

Cons: Only 1TB, but larger drives won't fit in my MacBook Pro.

Other Thoughts: I've only had this drive for around 1 week so I will update this if this drive gives me issues later. So far so good. I got this drive on sale for $70 which is less than what I paid for the slower 1TB I was using before. The one thing I was surprised is that the drive came in a retail box and not bare like the descriptions says. That's a bonus to me.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome product

Pros: This drive was priced very well when I bought it for my late 2012 Macbook pro. Popped it into the machine and was able to restore everything with no problems. With it being 7200 rpm it runs faster than most notebook hard drives (most are only 5400 rpm). This is a great product to buy.

Cons: at the moment none.

5 out of 5 eggsGood as a Homebrew external drive

Pros: While a bit early for me to make a review after only a few days, a good case for never buying an external USB 3.0 drive. Go t his route instead. I needed a drive ASAP to port huge files without being tied to external power. Although I picked up in brick and mortar for just a little less on sale due to time constraint, I'll get the next one from the EGG.

Most retail external mini-drives regardless of storage that can run on USB 3.0 alone without A/C are OK but never expect anything much over 50-60 MBPS, although that is great compared to USB 2.0 maxing at about 28 MBPS.

Using this one in home brew with a $12 case I would guess from monitoring software about 500 gigs in file transfers hangs on average close to 100 MBPS, for only a few dollars more. So the old commercial externals are being moved to backup drives for the satellite DVR's and a few home brews of this drive as externals are being moved in as work type drives. Very fast for a tiny drive. Building your own external "laptop-form factor" mini-drive takes five minutes.
The 7200 RPM in this drive delivers.

Cons: none so far, hope it holds up.
