5 out of 5 eggsFast, reliable. Good pricing

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: 7200 rpm speeds, quiet! Fully NAS compatible. HGST reliability.

Cons: I guess if I wanted to complain a 5 year warranty would be nice, but that is asking a lot at this price point.

Other Thoughts: Right now I've just 3 of these in a Synology box, and they performing swimmingly. I look forward to adding more!

If you read about drive reliability around the web HGST seems to be far and away the best. Not sure why. They are owned by WD, but operate completely autonomously from what I understand.

These drives were in the retail packaging inside a newegg box with a couple of small pieces of bubble wrap. I'm glad they weren't just the bare OEM drives flopping around.

I thought about spending a lot more for WD SE or RE drives, but I can't justify those when these are available.

5 out of 5 eggsMy review

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: Fast, cheap, reliable storage.

Cons: It doesn't make me breakfast in the morning...

Other Thoughts: I've owned many Hitachi drives over the years, and they are the most reliable storage drives on the market, in my opinion. I've had problems in the past with them as system drives, but this was purchased as storage, so I'm not concerned about that.

5 out of 5 eggsNAS is so good, it could have written Illmatic.

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: For reliability, this is the drive to check out for your HTPC or Workstation. 1 million MBTFs. Enough said. I have two of these installed in my HTPC (4TB & 6TB). I use them to hold content for Plex and backups for documents. They run great I've never had issue with them in speed and reliability. This NAS is so good, it could have written Illmatic.

Cons: 7200rpm, not really a con but it is worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts: Price could be lower but you get what you pay for.

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: 4TBs for a good enough price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought for my steam games. Filled up 3/4 of it. Games load pretty fast (not ssd fast, but good enough). I hope it last

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: none - makes me sorry I bought from Newegg instead of from a local store

Cons: Dead on Arrival
$15 to ship back
2 week turnaround
I needed the hard drive when I bought it, not 3 weeks later and a bunch of my time wasted

Other Thoughts: Garbage - was Dead on Arrival. Drive only would churn and click. BIOS couldn't even see it.

Stay very far away from this product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drives

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: I have 4 of these running on a qnap nas and so far they are working great. I find them to be a bit more noisy than other drives but not by much. Price compare to others makes them a great buy.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Only time will tell how long they last but I have them on a raid 5 and thinking of ordering another one as a spare.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: Good size/price ratio.
Works well in consumer NAS environments.
Reasonable temperatures.
Good performance.
Medium to low noise.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I currently have 8 of these in my home-built NAS. Another one is in a desktop photo-editing workstation, and one more in my other personal workstation. So far all 10 of them are running fine in their various environments. In my 8-drive NAS, they function great in my configuration. They are connected to my Supermicro MBD-X10SL7-F-O mother board via the built-in LSI 2308 RAID adapter. The LSI adapter is configured in IT mode and the drives are managed through ZFS under Linux. The drives are barely audible in my Rosewill 12-bay case although with this many drives I can feel a seek vibration on the table when large amounts of IO are happening. It's more interesting than anything else and not a problem. I plan to add another 4 of these HGTS 4TB NAS drives to my NAS shortly down the road. So far I've not had a failure or error with these drives. The performance has been stellar under ZFS. It's more than capable of saturating the 1Gb connection. I plan to try teaming the NICs for additional concurrent throughput from my multiple systems. The other two HGST 4TB NAS drives are both in separate workstations. They're inaudible in both of those systems and are enclosed in a Fractal Design Define R4 case (in both systems). The single-drive performance is acceptable for my needs.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable and large for a good price.

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: Fast for a NAS drive.
Fast enough to run games off of.
Size will be very difficult for the average user to fill.
Probably the most reliable HDD i've owned.

Cons: Runs hotter than any other HDD i've owned, averages around 37c in a case with 3 HDD's and 1 SSD with a Radeon 7950 and an overclocked i5 2500k, that said google has tested HDD's in higher temps and found that the effect of heat on HDD's does not seem to effect them until you get around 50c.

Other Thoughts: I will probably buy another one of these at some point soon in the future to replace a seagate 3TB HDD, i would highly suggest anyone to buy this HDD, in fact i would buy this over any other 4TB HDD, as again the quality is top notch.

5 out of 5 eggsBest 4TB NAS on the market!

This review is from: HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive

Pros: I have two 4TB drives running in RAID 0. Performance is excellent with 7200rpm and 64MB cache.

Cons: A bit noisy. You can hear these drives when under heavy operational load.

Other Thoughts: ATTO RAID 0 scores:

Read: 335 MB/sec
Write: 340 MB/sec

HD Tune RAID 0 (Read) score:

Min: 160.9 MB/sec
Avg: 257.7 MB/sec
Max: 336.4 MB/sec
