5 out of 5 eggsGREAT Drive

Pros: EXCELLENT reliability experienced over the past 6 years.
Just bought this refurbished 3TB hard drive a month ago and it is working great also. Was packaged well so as to survive the shipping (where boxes are routinely dropped and banged around).
I have several of these hard drives now - both new and refurbished.

Cons: Out of stock ..... again

Other Thoughts: I experimented with various hard drives several years ago and bought my first Hitachi drive 6 years ago. We use a lot of hard drives in our business for the various computers and for digital storage of photos, security camera images, and data.

Have never had a Hitachi drive fail yet - but have had lots of other drives fail over the years. I still have a 500Gb Hitachi hard drive from 6 years ago that was still plugging along when I replaced it with one of these 3TB hard drives last month.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good price for quality refurb
Clearly HGST factory refurb due to being sealed in their serialized packaging

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Drive came packaged very nicely from Newegg (usually there are horror stories about how bare drives are packaged by Newegg and thats why so many end up DOA). It passed a day long burn-in just fine. Quiet and operates like a normal drive.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat so Far

Pros: 3TB for $79.99. I bought 2 of them and set it up as raid zero.
Copied 3.2 TB to the new setup at a speed of 600-700MB per second

Cons: makes clicking noise

Other Thoughts: For the people who say they only get 1.99TB + 700GB of unallocated space that they cant use or format, dont use the MBR format use GPT

4 out of 5 eggsNice drive

Pros: Fast and quiet. Drive came up with no problems for storage in my media server. Came in factory sealed package. Super price for this amount of storage.

Cons: It is refurbished. To me this is not much of a con so long as it continues to work.

5 out of 5 eggsSO far so good.

Pros: Big and Speedy.

The drives came in factory sealed static bags. I put them into a NAS and they came up fine, no issues, no noises.

Cons: None?

Other Thoughts: HGST = Old Hitachi (now owned by Western Digital)

For what it is worth, I paid the extra $9 per drive for the extra 1 year of warranty. Total came to under $100 per drive. IMHO still a deal for a 3TB Hitachi drive.

I like that they came sealed in static bags that had to be torn open. It's obvious that these were not just "open box" drives. They were definitely refurbished and not thrown back in a box to be resold. The drives were dated from September and August 2012. 2 years old. Dunno if that matters after being refurbed.

I was worried based on the other reviews but so far so good.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad for the price

Pros: Picked up 4 @ $84.99 each
3 worked

Cons: One was DOA, had to RMA at my expense.

Other Thoughts: I picked them up to build a NAS4Free NAS out of spare parts:

Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
4x 1 GB DDR2
500W Silverstone PSU
Intel DG43GT motherboard
onboard Intel gigabit NIC
Intel ICH10 SATA controller (RAID array drives)
Promise SATA150 PCI card (system drive)
500 GB Maxtor system/swap/jail drive
4x 3 TB HGST storage drives in soft RAID-Z1 configuration
Old Antec look-alike case with 4 fans

RAID array write speeds are typically 700-900 mbps and read speeds push 1 gbps and it barely breaks a sweat.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

Pros: Excellent (shell-shocker) price. Formatted with no bad sectors. Works fine in my Rosewill RX-358 external enclosure. Runs cooler (35C) than my 2Tb drives from Hitachi, Samsung and Toshiba.

Cons: My previous experience with refurbished drives is mixed. All have outlasted their (limited) warranty periods (typically one year) but some have died well before the warranty for an equivalent new drive would have expired. Have had a previous refurbished 2Tb Hitachi drive fail after about 15 months.

Other Thoughts: Time will tell if this one will last.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Competitive price

Cons: First unit was DOA. Replacement unit runs pretty hot, occasionally makes a clicking noise,

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this refurbished product
