2 out of 5 eggsreturned and didnt like shipping style

Pros: There is no pro since imho a HDD should work d*mn you, work... once you know the specs what more can you say?

Cons: OK I know the HDD I bought was an OEM style, but a simple bubble wrap and thrown loose into a box may be the reason why I had to return it so fast...

Other Thoughts: I doubt the quality of newegg shipping now... I have spent tens of thousands of dollars over many years now at newegg but in 2006 I am seeing really weak shipping... lose the peanuts guys, we don't have 20 minutes to pick peanut wrapping out of our products!

3 out of 5 eggsreliable brand, reliable online store

Pros: Good Name, Good Drives.. ive never used other brand of hard drive, Seagate is a reliable brand.. and with their 5yr warranty... you cant go wrong

Cons: when the product arrived i installed it to my system.. and it took down my motherboard. maybe because my former computer was old.. so i fixed me up a new computer, i tried installing it on the new one (3 months later after my old one broke down).. guess what, it didnt work either.. so my conclusion is.. the product is bad.. ive wasted $xxx on this product. ive never got use it and never got a chance to return it to newegg.

but newegg still rocks!

Other Thoughts: i still like seagate and newegg..

i should have returned it the first time it gave me a sign that something is wrong, stupid me.

4 out of 5 eggsa little noisy

Pros: Seagate, 5yr warranty, I pretty much buy only seagates these days

Cons: A bit noisy for my tastes. Not the normal access noise, which I like since I can tell when it's doing things, but a loud CLICKing that sounds like it's banging its heads around too much. I trust it's not a big deal, but it's a bit .. off-putting.

Other Thoughts: Can't comment on speed or temp, it's in a linux machine for backups.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

Pros: Newegg.com's RMA proccess.

Cons: I was using a 160GB seagate drive in an external firewire enclosure for backup purposes. I filled this drive so I decided to buy another, larger driver to replace it. I ordered this one. It came in, I swapped out my 160GB and turned on the enclosure. Started formatting it, seemed fine then at 100% it started clicking and hdd led turned red (red=bad). The firewire drive started getting timeout errors in eventviewer, it was dead. RMA'd it with Newegg for a replacement. Second one came in a week later, I connected it and this time it locked up before I could even format it. I shut it down, restarted it and was able to format but it died again at 100%. 2 in a row? Was it my firewire enclosure? I tried 2 other drives I had and they worked fine. RMA'd the second one for a refund. Got a 320GB WD drive instead and it works great!

Other Thoughts: Maybe it's just this model. Or maybe it was a bad batch, or maybe it was just bad luck but I won't be ordering this specific drive anymore. We use other models at work without problems and I just purchased a 120GB Seagate from Newegg last week and it works great and my previous 160GB drive in the enclosure was also a Seagate. I still trust Seagate and will buy them again but not this drive.

4 out of 5 eggsGood so far...a little noisy...

Pros: Installed new drive to replace existing 80Gb Seagate boot drive in a Shuttle X system...so required 2 connector ATA cable and the system to spill its guts for a couple of hours!
Using the Seagate DiscTools (availabe on their website) the process was very easy.
Was suprised how long it took to copy from one disk to the other but it might have something to do with both drives going through the same disk controller?

Cons: No quieter than the old Seagate drive it replaces, i.e. not that quiet. Acceptable.
Runs quite hot.

Other Thoughts: Lets hope its as reliable as the 80Gb drive it replaces :)
Newegg was quick and the drive arrived - no frills - in good shape - thanks!

2 out of 5 eggswent bad, such is life

Pros: Big HDD for little money...

Cons: Playing the odds, mine went loud and clicking on me less than 1 week into it. The RMA return drive came back at 230GB. yeah yeah I know how they calulate the GB total but it still hurts!

Other Thoughts: The RMA HDD was labeled "repaired HDD" which gives me the willies...

5 out of 5 eggsexceptional

Pros: I have had several for over a year. Very quiet even when seeking; low power; never a lost sector; spins up in 4 seconds. What a change. I am old enough to remember when you never knew if your seagate drive would spin up or not. Yes yes, no problems with egghead either. Orders really do arrive before I expect them.

Cons: none I have had zillions of drives and these are the best.

Other Thoughts: One drive alone stays cool. If you stack multiple ones atop each other; point a fan at them.
Note that Linux supports drives > 137Mb even if the computer is old and the bios does not support it. But do not repeat my mistake of plugging one of these big drives into an old IDE add-on card that does not support drives > 137MB. Ooops! Guess I didn't want that data after all.

5 out of 5 eggsNice drive

Pros: I own this and the 120gb version of this drive. Both are quiet and durable. The 120gb has fallen from 4 feet before and still runs great.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great Buy! I put it into a and external for storage and its awesome. I don't have the wrench in a blender sound when starting up, I think the must be putting there ear rate on in the drive when starting it up, tools!

Cons: I wish it did the dishes!
