5 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: Cheap

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Had two IDE pc's left that needed a bit of an upgrade. So I purchased some more ram and this hard drive. Not much to say, did noticed how much quieter this hard drive is from the previous one. So that was a nice added plus.

As always, feel free to gmail my nickname with questions or comments.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst was DOA, 2nd worked like a champ, quiet and FAST longer warranty

Pros: 5 yr warranty
Fast
Quiet

Cons: first was DOA

Other Thoughts: i've been seeing way more DOA products from a variety of vendors lately, i suspect faulty or counterfiet components to be to blame

5 out of 5 eggsIts sweet

Pros: Fast and Quiet. Silky smooth. Does not run hot.
I decided to install a fresh XP OS on this drive. Its fast now. But not only is it faster booting, but also any general disc access is fast. Well, faster than the 80G drive from Seagate I got a couple years earlier.

Cons: none ... and still none a year later.

Other Thoughts: Running it on an old system: Dell 4400 1.8GHz.
At the time (1+ yrs ago), I wanted a fast drive for low cost with high capacity. This was it. I don't regret getting it at all... it was/is a great buy... I thought I paid about $80 for it at the time (?). "Made my system feel young again."

5 out of 5 eggsNewly installed Hard Drive

Pros: Installed the Seagate Hard Drive (ultra 100 ATA) into my Dell XPS Gen 2 machine, cloned my OS, swaped bays, and has been running flawlessly for six weeks, sometimes 24/7. I downloaded the Seagate Diskwizard and followed the menu and in one hour everything was up and running. 5 year warranty was the selling point.

Cons: Nothing yet.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has been a pleasure to buy from. Very prompt and so far, excelllent customer service (advice).

4 out of 5 eggsLittle problems

Pros: Great speed, seems reliable and very quiet nice for an older DDR board or 2 with IDE ports.

Cons: Tried to run the XP cd from my Dell dimension 3000, the computer I am running and it wouldnt boot XP without a slave drive. I had to keep going to the boot menu to run XP, but when I put a formatted drive as a primary slave it booted right up. Maybe an XP error or maybe manufacturer fault, anyway it boots and runs great now with a slave, which was my original plan using the 80 GB maxtor as one anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate !

Pros: It worked for a total of 7 months. It was quick and installed quickly and easily.

Cons: It became a paper weight. I never moved the hard-drive since i installed it as an external hard-drive. Never left it on for more than 20 mins or so. It began to hear a weird noise coming from the hard-drive then it turned into clicking. Now when I turn on the hard-drive it freezes the computer.

Other Thoughts: I wish it failed when I first got it so I could have returned it to newegg.com instead of returning it to seagate. Seagate's packing instructions are a bit annoying.

1 out of 5 eggs**Update**

Pros: None at the moment

Cons: The noise I heard became a clicking sound, so I RMA'd the hard drive. The S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic tools showed a dramatic decrease in drive performance also. Needless to say, I am unhappy with this hard drive at this moment in time.

Other Thoughts: I will update again when the new hard drive arrives.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Good, fast drive. Replacing an old maxtor that was very loud, noisy, and slow. I didnt feel like trying to clone an IDE drive to a SATA drive, so I cloned it to this OEM IDE drive. Has worked well for a couple weeks now.

Cons: Makes an unpleasant noise for 20 seconds when starting up. After doing much research and talking with Seagate, I was told that the drives are commonly noisy during spin-up. I'd prefer not being so worried over it though.

Other Thoughts: Seatools is garbage for windows... Don't bother with it.
