5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

Pros: lasts forever

Cons: Drive came with jumper set for SATA I, but I only had a SATA I controller.

Other Thoughts: I am reusing this drive for my UnTangle router box and set the jumper to SATA II(actually, no jumper is SATA II). We'll see how it works now. It is over 4 years old now. I think I bought here, but I can't remember that far back anymore. Work horse of a drive. I just hope it holds up under SATA II speeds.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasts

Pros: Fast, quiet

Cons: Crapshoot. Some of these drives fail within months. Others apparently last forever.

Other Thoughts: I bought two: one for OS drive, the other for offline backup of OS drive. A few months later, I added more drives and began getting "Unknown hard error" crashes in Windows. Thought they were related or that the motherboard was going...
after swapping out drives and a new OS install, accessing the first OS drive a few min after a restart caused the system to hang. Took forever to get my non-replaceable data off it.

Don't void the manufacturer's warrantee.

5 out of 5 eggsMade in China +++

Pros: Typical Quiet Seagate technology. Good value for the money (as I write this on May 27, 2007)

Cons: Made in China != Made in (another southeast Asian country not nameable under Newegg's policy that starts with In and ends with dia). I purchased several of these locally: One made in China, the other two elsewhere in SE Asia. They had identical part numbers (but different lot numbers). The Made in (Another SE Asian Country) drives would not work with onboard raid on my ASUS A8N32-SLI mainboard. The drive purchased from Newegg was (luckily) made in China and has no issues.

5 out of 5 eggsNice !

Pros: 5yr warranty. Slimmer, (not as thick) as other IDE/SATA drives; which helps w/airflow. Very Quite. Using two of these 160 gig in RAID 1 array, and two of Seagate's 120gig in RAID 1 array.

I've had no concerns so far, they've been running alot for the last 4 months or so, I run SETI@Home at night when I'm in bed on Xandros 4.1.

Cons: none atm.

Other Thoughts: IF you are using both IDE (PATA) drives and SATA drives in the same system, as I am, and want to install your OS on SATA drives; make sure to change the drive boot priority in your BIOS. I didn't at first, which is why WinXP wanted to install a file to IDE drive even though SATA drive was the boot drive. So if you're install'n Windows or Linux on your system, make sure you BIOS is set to boot from SATA drive first, then IDE. I overlooked this, and had to re-install Windows to get duel-boot to work correctly so I could install Xandros.

5 out of 5 eggsThin

Pros: I got it for a RAID 0 array. It runs fast. No errors yet.

Cons: Mine runs too hot! It clocked at 53C at some time, and I got worried. My previous drives were a lot colder...

Other Thoughts: This is a the slim profile drive. I was a bit surprised, I'm wondering if this is the reason for the high temps. I will add an extra fan on the drives, it could be the placement...
