Good and Bad

white Reviewed By: Just Dana on 4/28/2008
Rating + 3
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Pros: Once working they tend to be work well.
Cons: Cons: If they can make it past the few month stage they seems to be alright. I have had about 8 out of 25 that have devoloped errors or flat out died. NS is suppose to be rated for a NAS (network Attached Storage) device meaning they should be able to take a lot of data transferring along with the heat generated from all the transferring. 8 failures is a high number in my book.

I waited about a year before posting so this wasn't an emotional off-the-cuff response but one that i've documented over a period of time.
Other Thoughts: I would go with the AS series verses the NS series if you are concerned with drive and data failures. If you have a RAID type environment you might not be as concerned about a failure or 8 but for anything that is not stripped over multiple drives I would be a bit weary on purchasing this for a desktop only system or an being used for an external device.

Excellent Experience

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Fast and reliable so far. I have 3 of these setup in a RAID 5 as my OS partition running Vista Ultimate 32bit. I have had no issues and have been very pleased.
Cons: None to speak of...
Other Thoughts: These are the first Seagate drives I have purchased in years. I have been typically using WD drives and I am very pleased with the performance of these Seagates. They are not as fast as my WD Raptor's but for the O/S partition they work great. I am so pleased that I will probably be buying the 750GB Seagates for a Windows Home Server...
