5 out of 5 eggsworks

Pros: It worked as described.A few comments say Seagate went down hill I have so far had good luck with them.

Cons: None as of now stay tuned.

Other Thoughts: I noticed that anything made in China pretty much is junk but hard drives made in Thailand are some what better. This is just a obsrevence take it for what it is worth.

1 out of 5 eggsInside is *not* a ST35000641AS (it's a ST500DM002)

Pros: If you don't care it's not a ST3500641AS drive, but rather a ST500DM002 ; You are good to go. It's a Seagate drive with a great warranty and good replacement problem.

Cons: Box says ST3500641AS-RK, but inside is a ST500DM002 not a ST3500641AS as you would think.

After purchasing two ST3500641AS-RK units, in hopes of swapping out two ST3500641AS drives that were going out; I opened the box to find that Seagate is no longer making a ST3500641AS, but rather they are using ST500DM002 drives.

The ST500DM002 drive is a newer, more technologically advanced drive; but it's not the same. It has fewer platters and more bit density, as well as firmware, etc. It's just not the same drive.

5 out of 5 eggsA good drive

Pros: I first reviewed this drive harshly but after having a couple spanning 12+ months there have been no faliures or problems. The drive is very quiet and is fast enough for the average user. If you can't afford a SSD or 10,000 rpm drive I would recommend this one not because its fast, because it's been reliable.

Cons: The 1tb verision is only a few dollars more....

Other Thoughts: The included utitiles disc fixed the random problem I had with the drive so if your are having any issues I suggest loading the included software.

Pros: Works just fine. 500GB is more than enough for what I do with my computer.

Cons: Can't think of any.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Awesome customer support!!! and it worked!!!

Cons: But only for the first 6 months, after that it failed, I called seagate and they happily sent me a replacement I just paid for shipping which was fine, but that one fail to called again paid for shipping got another, and it failed about a week later, called again got another paid for shipping once again, and this one was, yup, DOA

Other Thoughts: I'm sure this was probably just bad luck on my part, as seagate is a decent company, they do have amazing customer support, but they only sent me refurbished hard drives as replacements, and i do wish they would stress test them a bit better before sending them out.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine and the price is right

Pros: The boot drive on my file server failed so I picked up one of these at a local vendor for $74.99 to replace it. Wasn't concerned about speed since I leave the system running all of the time and only use it for automatic backups across the network from the other systems. Purchased a second one for my office system on which the motherboard failed and I needed more storage on it. Both work fine so far.

Cons: Not an SSD???

4 out of 5 eggsEhh

Pros: 500gb!
Quite fast
I guess this hdd is only good for storing media!

Came in a box, with sata cable, and power adapter (molex to sata)

Cons: Theres a 1tb version of this for the same price...

Not as fast as my ssd, it makes this hdd look like a snail.

16mb of cache only.

Other Thoughts: At first the drive was only detected in BIOS, not windows. There was no support what so ever online, but i found a fix:

1. Unplug your primary hdd, leave this one plugged in.

2. Put your windows cd in

3. Select this drive when u choose to install

4. Create a partition

5. Format both partitions

6. Close the windows setup and turn off your conputer using the power button.

Plug back your sata devices and VOILA. It works :)

4 out of 5 eggsGood Replacement

Pros: Good write, read, seek time. Benchmarked it for about fifteen minutes after getting Windows 7 set up on it, and the average was good, at about 100mbp/s (considering that I was copying files onto it from my old primary hard drive.

Cons: The screws that came with it are not exactly what I would call quality material. I used different screws that were available instead that met the thread count. Also, XP SP3 recognized this drive as a different model number than is stated on the box.. Nothing I am docking an egg for, really.

Other Thoughts: I have only owned this HDD for a day. Though it is purely amazing to me already, compared to my 10 year old one. This HDD is silent, which could be a good and bad thing. I restarted my computer twice, because I didn't hear it or feel any reactive vibrations when powered on. Sure enough, it was recognized in the bios. The only reason I docked an egg was because of the shipping. The box it came in was beaten up a little (inside the new egg box, which was perfectly fine...) and the HDD slipped right out when I opened the box. If I were to have been standing, I would have had a great looking paperweight. I am sure this is not Seagate's problem, though. I will most likely write another review down the road, in about a year or two.
