2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks nice. Works most of the time, once you fight the power button to get it started.

Cons: Power "button" is absolutely useless. The Fonz couldn't even get this thing to start reliably. Modular design for inputs means you have to keep track of two little boxes, one with FW/USB and one with esata, so portability is worthless too. Switching between he two modules requires unplugging everything, turning the drive over, and pulling out the bottom. The nice looking design also means the base is 3 times as wide as the drive, wasting space and making the drive tall and providing a HUGE unnecessary footprint, with no options for laying it on it's side or flat.

Other Thoughts: This is a classic example of form over function. Seagate designed this drive to look pretty and function poorly. There's no excuse for this sorta garbage. My fault for buying it though.

1 out of 5 eggsTotal Garbage

Pros: Sleek Looking

Cons: This drive does not perform as a 3.0 GB/S SATA drive. It is constantly dropping out of SATA 3.0 mode. Here are a few examples:
ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2
ata1: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
ata1.00: error: { ICRC ABRT }

then later:

ata1.00: limiting speed to UDMA/100:PIO4

ata1.00: cmd 35/00:00:1f:76:40/00:04:00:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 524288 out res 51/84:00:1e:7a:40/00:00:00:00:00/e0 Emask 0x10 (ATA bus error)

Also, drive frequently turns on for no reason just because it is plugged in. I wake up in the morning and my PC is off but the drive is on.

Other Thoughts: These are very low quality drives that simply do not perform up to specifications. Search on the web and you will see that tons of people are having problems with these drives. For people that are using these drives at low sppeds for little dribbles of data transfer the problems may not show up, but if you are buying one of these drives for sustained writes of large file - forget it altogether.

Seagate support is very unresponsive.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Seems like a good reliable drive, quiet, the drive (it self) runs cool,

Cons: The base of the unit gets hot. I don't like the back up software that came with the unit. I am using a free ware software I down loaded from Cnet.

Other Thoughts: It seems like a good reliable drive, I wish the backup software had more function. The only mode I found on the software was live backup that is not useful since you may need to do some cleaning up the pictures or data before backing it up. The USB seems to be fast enough for me, I haven't tried the other connections.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This hard drive was easy to install and the connection went fairly well, no complaints.

Cons: I don't like the on/off switch if thats what you want to call it? Why didnt they just make a button on the top that you could press. A few times I have pressed the button and the HD stays on. I also don't like the fact that I am having a hard time backing up certain folders since I can't find the answers. It says I can't back up my program folders but when I uncheck the config part about allowing program files to be backed up it doesnt do it. I want the HD for backing up all my gaming files like battlefield 2 etc. I went to the website and still can't find the answers so I'll have to keep looking. I have my internal HD partitioned and its not able to copy it.

Other Thoughts: I got a good price from newegg on this

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable Drives

Pros: Looks Nice, good value.

Cons: I purchased two of these drives at a Retail Box Chain store and i'm glad I did. Both drives would intermittently kill my video on two separate computers. I would intermittently get grey bars on my Dell Laptop and I would lose my video signal on my gaming rig which required a hard system shutdown i.e. hold down power button.

Nice design, nice price...not worth the risk, sorry.

Other Thoughts: Seagate offers absolutely no help on their website. Buyer beware !!!

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: So far, Very awesome little drive. Doesn't take up much space at all. Touch sensitive power button is handy if you are only using it as a Back-up drive only. Fast transfer speeds on 1394. Transfered a 750mb file in less than 1 minute!!

Cons: Base bottom appears to get hot when off or on. I also just ran a full backup and turned it off, so it may need to just cool down.

Other Thoughts: Use another program besides the Seagate one. I found that to be a mem hog. I use Ghost 12.0. Did a full backup in 30 mins. 180GB+ worth of data, compressed to 120GB. Only Seagate drives in my systems ( 6 drives) and not 1 has EVER failed on me or failed to meet my expectations. Seagate for life.

1 out of 5 eggs2 Defective in a row

Pros: Excellent concept

Cons: 2 bad drives in a row - found by running included utilities/Run Drive Diagnostics. Checks out fine with USB interface, results in diagnostic error code with Firewire interface. 1st drive RMA'd through Newegg. 2nd drive will be RMA'd through Seagate. Seagate waved the fees on advance replacement, and are sending a UPS label to return 2nd drive to seagate. This way it costs me nothing... but time.

Other Thoughts: Not sure whats going on here.. bad software? diagnostics don't work via firewire interface? Suggest you skip the firewire option unless you really need it.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Compatible with any computer in the world due to the USB, FireWire, and eSATA connections. I think the design of the case is neat, the top, front and back light up when it is powered on.

Cons: You need to switch modules of you want to change from USB to FireWire. It would've been nice to put all the connections on there instead of doing it this way. Also, the hard disk activity light is hard to pick out. There is about an inch section of the part that lights up on the front that gets brighter than the surrounding light, but not very bright.

Other Thoughts: Great drive. I use it to backup my Windows and Mac servers and take it home as a simple way of off-site backups.
