Seagate created the SV35.2 series of drives specifically for the video surveillance market. They are designed with fewer moving parts and low power consumption to extend the MTBF to an amazing 1,000,000+ hours in a 24/7 operating environment with high write duty cycles.

This 320GB drive has a fast SATA II interface that can easily handle multiple input data streams for multi-camera operation. The large 16MB cache ensures smooth data transfers with minimal bottlenecking. The 7200RPM spindle speed and 14ms write-seek time contribute to the drive's exceptional performance.

Pros: I used a new Seagate SATA 3.0 drive and had choppy video on my Scientific Atlanta 8300DVR. I talked to Seagate and they steered me to the SV35 series Seagate drives which are designed specifically for DVR applications. I bought an external SATA enclosure and the 320GB SV35 drive from Seagate and my video is PERFECT now! Newegg delivered fast and great packaging.

Cons: Wish that Seagate would carry larger SV35 series drives.

Fast & Quiet

Pros: Very fast, very quiet drive. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Easy install in a Lian Li PCA09B.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Poor shipping by newegg this time. Advertised 3 day shipping. Order placed on saturday and delivered on thursday after 6pm. Invoice said 3 day. After calling UPS I found it was shipped ground. Im no fan of UPS either. They apparently won't leave your package at your apartment office if you're not home. Wish we had a FedEx option. Too bad there isn't a shipping rating system.

I love seagate

Pros: I have always been a seagate fan and this drive is no exception. I bought two of these to run vista x64 ultimate in a raid 0 configuration using the siig sata 2 controller card. These have run great from the moment I put them in. Speeds are fantastic, drives are generally quiet. This is the streaming video version of seagate drives which are able to record multiple streams of video simultaneously (such as dvr boxes and multiple security camera set-up). I am not using it for this but wanted a seagate drive that wasn't gonna be doa like many of them have been recently. I'm guessing it depends on the factory where it was made that is a direct correlation of the relaibility ( I'd tell you where mine was made, but it's inside the case, sorry ). These drives are the only ones with 14 good ratings in a row. Seagate better figure out what to do about the failure rates cause their name is being tarnished. Thankfully, mine were perfect...so far.

Cons: I'm very worried now about the long term reliability of my drives, something I never would have previously been concerned of with a seagate before. The drives can be a little noisy with heavy activity (but really, what drive isn't?).

Other Thoughts: The only reason I gave it a four out of five eggs is because of the uncertainty of the long term reliability of the drive. Other than that, I can recommend the whole-heartedly at the present time.

Identity Crisis

Pros: Well, due to the fact that it isn't functioning on any level right now, there are no pros to speak of.

Cons: Windows XP is registering this thing as a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive. I uninstalled the driver and manually installed it twice now and it keeps saying it's a floppy drive. I can't even begin to imagine how to fix this problem as I've NEVER had a problem like this.

Other Thoughts: If anyone knows how to handle a situation like this please tell me what to do!

Pros: Cheap, good RAID drive. Good transfer rate for the money.

Cons: Slower than SCSI, higher fail rate than expected.

Other Thoughts: I built a 4 drive RAID 5 array 22 months ago using these drives. One of them died today (no rebuild). They have a 3 year warranty. I will instead migrate to a 400. Drive warranties usually only make sense for long term data farms.
