5 out of 5 eggsResurrected an old system

Pros: -Is a Seagate product
-Fast seek speeds for what it is
-IDE for older systems(only reason to buy this drive)
-Quiet, loaded XP up just fine with no errors

Cons: Not available in most retail stores

Other Thoughts: I picked this drive to bring an old Dell Dimension 1.8GHZ back into service for my wife to use as a word processor/web surfer/music player after it died on my father and he was going to throw it out. $55 shipped and I have a computer that works perfectly and is more than enough for word, firefox and itunes. XP service pack 3 is running like a top as well.

5 out of 5 eggsBought for PS2

Pros: Bought to put Rock Band and Guitar Hero games on for my PS2. Works fine.

Cons: Slim design allows it to flop around in PS2. Added some shimming materials to solve problem.

5 out of 5 eggsSeagate hard drive

Pros: Seagate period.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I needed a new hard drive for my old ECS board, after using a 80gb it wasn't cutting it, so I went with a 160gb. Installed Debian 5.0, and its pretty stable for an old thing. Won't be doing anything hard core, some basic programming, audio editing.

5 out of 5 eggsNice drive

Pros: The price, IDE drives are starting to get hard to find and I needed something cheap to keep my old system going.

Cons: There's a high pitched hum you'll notice once in awhile, but it's nothing major, and it's an IDE drive. The SATA counterparts in the same price range have ~300% more storage capacity, but if you need something cheap to keep an old machine going this is it.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a Seagate ST340810A 40GB HD at 5,400 RPM, 2 MB of cache and a 8.9 ms latency. This drive blows the old one away no contest.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive for Old Workhorse

Pros: 5 year warranty is pretty Impressive!!

OEM Drive with no instructions, But Seagate.com had good instructions and their DiscWizard made things pretty easy. Great phone technical support even on weekends!!!

I put this drive in a 7 year old 2.53 GhZ Pentium 4 Dell and the performance improvement was dramatic. Some copy functions now run in 17 minutes when they used to take an hour or more!!

Cons: Because XP will not allow expansion of partitions, I ended up having to buy EZ Migration so my new 160 Gig System drive didn't end up as a 40 Gig and a 120 Gig Drive.

Other Thoughts: If your performance is suffering and your system disk is too small and fragmented to even do a decent defrag on get yourself one of these Seagate Barracuda's.

When DiscWizard (very easy to use) says "Clone a Drive" that is exactly what it does. I couldn't figure out any way around having a too small 40 Gig partition on a 160 Gig drive. Apparently Vista offers the capability to expand an existing partition, but XP does not.

After some research on the Web, I found EZ Migration for about $40 that let me clone the system drive and then expand the 40 Gig partition to the full size of the new drive.

5 out of 5 eggsSeagate

Pros: I've had little trouble with the Seagate Hard drives, in all sizes, and they are the best to setup and get going with their software. Disc Wizard etc. They are fast quiet, very dependable.

Cons: Just like any product, they one in a 1000 that will breakdown quick

Other Thoughts: I have built several hundred computers over the past years and I only use Seagate

5 out of 5 eggsMade My Old Machine Like New

Pros: It is an amazing drive for an ATA. I have a 5 year old Dell that I use for work and it was slowing down. This new drive with it's larger buffer and higher rotation rate was like adding a new engine to my old clunker.

XP saw it immediately, the initialized and formatted perfectly. XP SP3 now runs muck more quickly and it has given my old machine a new lease on life!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Should have upgraded sooner....Seagate is the best. It had an older Seagate from Dell, 80MB with a 4 MB buffer and slower rotational speed. It's a perfect match for this machine.

Albeit it, it is still an ATA drive and SATA is the way to go, my old machine doesn't have an SATA interface :(
