5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Reliable, durable, cost

Cons: speed, size

Other Thoughts: This drive has been my primary OS disk on a small file server for over 5 years. It is a good drive to hold an OE that isn't under high demand.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: Good drive, decent performance, runs cool.

Cons: None that I'm aware of.

Other Thoughts: Bought one of these back in 2008 for a PC build for a friend. As far as I know it's still in use and still running strong.

5 out of 5 eggsFour years later as well and still amazed!

Pros: Can't believe a Seagate HD is this awesome. I have been using it for more than four years now and never had any problems. Super pleased, I still prefer WD though.

Cons: None really

1 out of 5 eggsWill never buy seagates again.....

Pros: New recording technology sounded great and had great reviews. Supposed to be the drive of the future so I bought many of them for myself and friends.......REALLY BAD DECISION

Cons: NOW I have many drives failing all over the place. My desk is covered by re-certified drives they have sent as replacements. They fail much quicker than the originals and are usually sent back with no warranty remaining so when they fail you are done. That may actually be a blessing so you will be forced to then move to Western Digital and end the nightmare. The most current re-certified drive replacement lasted 11 days when I installed it and I was UNABLE to get a good clone copy as it went south quickly. I have already had to replace several friends drives I had installed and shutter to think how many more Seagate time bombs I have out there waiting to fail very soon. The new ones worked fairly will well for maybe 1-2 years then die either in slow motion or get quickly corrupted and unusable.

Other Thoughts: Buy Western Digital drives and be happy. their Blue drives are good and their Black are better. I figure this mechanical drive business is a dying business as SSDs come online with dropping prices. That will eventually be the only way to go, especially in laptop systems where physical shock is such a high concern.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going

Pros: Solid and working fine since 2/12/09.

Cons: Actually only 232GB. 16MB cache is low now. Loading screen for SWTOR take way too long

Other Thoughts: Very popular drive back in the day. Looking to upgrade but with the price of HDD and SSD right now, i'm going to stick with this.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed

Pros: it worked during the warranty period.

Cons: here we are at 3.5 years of ownership - just outside of the warranty - and the drive has begun to fail...it has become very audible and my computer has slowed down to a snails pace at times. frequent crashing, inability to boot to desktop - you name it, its happening. the drive is very much so on its way out. i ordered an SSD as a replacement. I will not be buying from Seagate again after this experience...I've owned Western Digital in the past and they have run for 8+ years with NO instability. Customer lost.

Other Thoughts: If you value your date, remember to back it up often.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I was smart enough not to place anything crucial on these plagued things.

Cons: 3 Years, and have had 3 seagate drives fail.

Lost over a tera of data combined.

I used to put all my faith into seagate. After this nightmare i'll never buy another seagate again.

My first two drives died a year and a half after purchase. The third died about 20 minutes ago.

Did not overheat, but i'll bet you the board went on it cuz it sure as hell wasn't the platters.

Other Thoughts: If you value your data, stay the hell away from seagate.

They may run well for a year or so but after that they drop dead.

All my current drives are WD Blacks and haven't had a problem with them and neither has my brother.

He went WD while i went Seagate. Lesson learned. His rig is still rock solid.
