5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 32mb cache for cheap!

Cons: From what I understand from talking with technical support (they aren't very helpful), this drive isn't part of the barracuda series but the "3.5 inch series" meaning it doesn't use Perpendicular recording technology or any of that good stuff.

3 out of 5 eggswhat about 32mb cache?

Pros: price, 5 year warranty, and Seagate reputation; including good luck with their product

Cons: poor website support on this particular model and poor review ratings on 500gb-32mb cache version.

Other Thoughts: I normally do not review parts I haven't owned, but the debate over the 32mb cache intrigued me. I did find some info on the 500gb model, so apparently there is a 7200.11 series. see http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=c89ef141e7f43110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&locale=en-US&reqPage=Model&modelReqTab=TechSpecs

5 out of 5 eggsNeed Clarification

Pros: Great specs/price. (May be part of the 7200.11 series due to 32mb cache)

Cons: Specs and info need clarification.

Other Thoughts: Don't own one (yet). Model on link below is not the same as this one - so, no, it is not found on Seagate site. To the person that spoke with Seagate rep, did they know why it could not be found on their site?

4 out of 5 eggsCache?

Pros: Fast, works fine in Intel iMac Core 2 duo

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Not sure how to verify if it has 32MB cache, as Seagate doesn't report that this drive exists on their website, seems quite a bit faster than stock OEM 160GB 7200.9 I replaced though.

5 out of 5 eggs7200.11 series

Pros: The Barracuda 7200.11 series hard drives are listed on the Seagate website. Although the site only list 500GB - 1TB has having up to 32MB, The 400GB's are new and not listed on the publications (PDF's) that were written last June '07. Larger cache does make a difference. At the current price I say its a bargain.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I dont have yet, but plan on purchasing.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't Know about the Cache

Pros: Cheapest 32MB drive around.

Cons: 7200.10, not .11. Don't know what kind of changes they made between series, but I feel like I got tricked into buying old technology. Probably shoulda Googled more before purchasing. Very little information regarding the drive. No mention of it on Seagate's website.

Other Thoughts: mr coffee, the link you posted is for the ST3400620AS. This model is the 320AS. I'm actually kinda worried that the drive doesn't actually have 32MB. The memory IC on the PCB is 8MB and PC Wizard is showing it as 8MB. Seagate tech support confirmed that it has 32MB, but it still feels sketchy to me.

5 out of 5 eggsCache size reality check

Pros: Sounds good on paper - I don't actually own one, but I was looking at it and there isn't a NewEgg,"hey, is this an error" box that I can find.

Cons: Seagate website says it only has a 16M cache, not 32M

What's up here?

Other Thoughts: Don't understand why Glynn couldn't find it. Here's the link

5 out of 5 eggsRare Find

Pros: This hard drive seemed like it was a little too good to believe, a 400 GB, 32 MB cache drive in Seagate’s 7200.10 line-up. There's no such drive listed on their website, and I couldn't find other reviews. This drive runs quiet and runs at the expect speed.

Cons: Be sure you have everything - this OEM product is even more scant than usual

Other Thoughts: I'll update if anything goes wrong early, but otherwise this is a good price.
