This review is from: Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

Pros: Dead on arrival so there are no pros

Cons: It was dead on arrival but I suspect it could have but the PSU that caused it.

2 out of 5 eggsShort life

This review is from: Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

Pros: Quite, fast

Cons: Was great until it died yes then a year after I installed it in a new build

Other Thoughts: These seemed to be a great hard drive. It was the best hard drive I had purchased to date, being quit and fast. Everything worked fine until 1 week ago and I started getting blue screens of death. While trying to do a backup to save any newer files and pictures I had since the last backup, it crashed for the final time. At first it showed up in BIOS and then it started to not show up. But either way it would not boot. Tried to do a Windows repair but when running set up Windows could not identify the HD even when BIOS showed it was there. Even though this was bought in June of 2014, it was not installed until December of 2014. Now here in October 2015 it is dead. I did not even get a years use of it.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy owner of over 90 Seagate Drives

This review is from: Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

Pros: +48TB worth of these drives running 24/7 in one rig for years now and the first (and oldest one) is just starting to fail. (just cloned it last night)

I can't be sure exactly how long (because I am not concerned nor do I worry about my seagate drives) but the oldest one (only 1.5 tb) has lasted over 6 years now.

Cons: Reading reviews where people complain that a 4 tb drive is not exactly 4 tb not paying any mind to the fact that the size difference has to do with the difference between the way a HDD manufacturer and the way windows calculates storage capacity and then claiming they have a high level of tech expertise.

It's misleading and potentially hurts sales for the only company I will buy a mechanical drive from when greenhorns come in expecting that reviews are honest and by people that at least know a lil bit about what they claim instead of getting senseless negative implications (which they assume is true, because you say you are an expert).

For you "experts" out there, do simple math please, before saying something negative about things which you do not understand, noobies who don't have tech friends read these reviews to help them decide on purchases and a technical reality of ALL drives is not a con by any means.

HDD maker | 1kb = 1000 bytes
Windows | 1kb = 1024 bytes

There are way more reasons why the actual space available is lower than what is on the box (especially on windows) but that is the simple gist of it,

Other Thoughts: If you are not a tech person and just need to replace the junk drive you currently own, one of these in any size offered will be good enough.

As a note, whenever someone asks me to swap drives for them or "fix their computer" when it is a failed drive, I tell them to buy a seagate drive because I am not going to put in a junk brand drive and then have someone get back to me like I did something wrong when that drive fails in 2 months.

I trust seagate with my name, you can trust them for your personal storage needs.

Cons: Isn't an SSD; but hey, what can we do for now.

5 out of 5 eggsThumbs up.

This review is from: Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

Pros: This hard disk comes retail and ready to use. Whisper quiet with classic Seagate construction. An excellent buy for those looking outside of the SSD park.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: A very popular drive. Most retail chains even stock them. Can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsSeagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

This review is from: Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

Pros: A Seagate drive. I've used Seagate drives for every system that I've ever built and I have yet to have one crash on me, except for one of the upgrade kits that are available at WAL-MART. The main drive is still going.

1 TB. I will most likely add another one of these drives or a higher capacity drive from Seagate. For now it has all the space I need for downloading data.

Cons: It's not really a con for me, but the drive arrived sealed and when I opened it there was no Seagate Wizard program disc. The reason why this doesn't affect me is because I can download the program from their website. That was all.

Other Thoughts: The drive has worked great for the first day and is still going. As I said, I would not buy any other than Seagate because I know their drives are of great quality. I recommend any Seagate drive. Also, just because someone may get a bad one doesn't mean that they are all bad drives.

5 out of 5 eggsSeems fairly well made.

This review is from: Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

Pros: It's absolutely silent, runs cool and it's extremely fast.

When I ordered this drive I wasn't sure if this would be like my other Seagate drives, this one is a little thinner than the traditional 3.5" design, but it's not ultra thin. That was a huge concern because those ultra thin drives are well known for not being reliable. This one seems to be working great so far. My main Seagate drive is 1.5T and I have had it for almost 8 years now. I have never had any luck with Western Digital, Maxtor or any other brand, they always fail on me.

Cons: I am not happy that it is made in China, that's a major Con right there. The 2 year warranty is not that great either considering that Seagate drives used to come with a 5 year warranty. That says a lot about a company standing behind their products. Hard drives hold very important information, if they fail, it's lost forever. While noting lasts forever, at least give people a longer warranty. Just because other companies do the same does not mean you should too.

Other Thoughts: Other than than the fact the warranty is weak and it's made in China, it's a decent drive so far. However, if this drive cannot survive at least 5 years I will probably have to switch to a different brand that offers a longer warranty and more reliable product. Until then, It's Seagate only for me.

4 out of 5 eggsNice HDD

This review is from: Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit

Pros: Thinner than the older drives, light weight. Single platter for 1 TB. Two year warranty. Has a good package to store the drive it replaces.

Cons: SATA cable is non-locking. Tough to get Windows 7 installed, had to try 5 times to get the disk recognized. Said the NTFS is the wrong version, then suddenly it worked.

Other Thoughts: Same drive as the OEM Barracuda ST1000DM003, which of course costs less. I'm out of the SSD market for a while, until some favorable reviews start showing up. Weird how they are so popular, but failure rate is out of control.
