DO NOT BUY - Keep looking
- Pros: Nice size. Good name. Great warranty.
- Cons: Simple: not reliable. Here is my story: I own several (smaller) Seagate FreeAgent drives and have been 100% satisfied. The Seagate FreeAgent 1.5tb has the same 5 year warranty which is far more than most other brand external drives. What could go wrong? After placing my order, I read the other reviews and noticed a high failure rate. Uh-oh. Upon receiving the drive, I immediately put it to the test filling it to about 98% capacity. It ran just fine. So, I deleted everything and began consolidating my other drives. After letting it run for nearly a week, I came in to discover a Windows ‘delayed write error’. I rebooted my computer and drive and continued backing my data up. Things seemed OK for a couple of hours but, sure enough, another write error. I immediately downloaded the SeaTools from Seagate and ran the diagnostics. No problem found. A quick search of the internet revealed MANY people with similar issues and Seagate seems to be in denial about a real problem.
- Other Thoughts: Further testing has revealed the following: The drive seems to run great for several days of reading and writing. Eventually, it just stops writing develops write errors. If left to cool down, it will run for several more days until it develops the problem again. Each time, it seems to happen sooner and sooner. It doesn’t seem to be when the drive is full. The first time happened at about 900gb (about 60% capacity). I have been able to fill the drive completely (within about 10 gb of free space) and it still will read and write just fine. But if left on and running for several days, it simply stops working.
Defective Product
- Pros: Large Capacity, Nice Looks, Low Price
- Cons: Failure after three days
- Other Thoughts: This drive is the epitome of "you get what you pay for." I was suckered in by the great price and name brand, and initially everything was great. Drive comes with some software taking up space, but that's easy to delete. Space as advertised, 1.36TB binary. However, after three days of use, Windows started losing contact with the drive, citing "delayed write error." Attempts to reconnect the drive led to the wondrous death clicks mentioned by others. Luckily, I was able to pull my data off the drive in dribs and drabs during the short times the connection (and drive) would stay alive, and then returned it for what refund I could get. Just remember, what looks too good to be true probably is. Avoid this product.

DO NOT BUY
- Pros: Worked for a few months just fine until one day it started beeping at me. Which usually means, hardware failure. AWESOME!
- Cons: It was 100% unreliable
- Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY
good item
- Pros: Works great and easy to use.
- Cons: None
I dont trust this model
- Pros: nice looking
- Cons: Well I have been using this drive a lot to store video files ,it does get pretty hot and now it is started to make clicking sound. It is making me nervous. My other drives never behave this way before and from all the horror stories I have read, I dont trust this one anymore.
I am not going to turn on that drive until I have another to transfer all the files to.
- Other Thoughts: I had the older smaller model 750/500 for over 3-4 years without any problems at all.
