- Pros: Significant increase in performance on my Mac Mini (2007 version, 2.0 ghz intel core 2 duo, 2gb ram) over the default 120gb, 5400 rpm drive. The performance increase has been especially noticeable in relation to boot time and the time it takes to start memory-intensive applications like iPhoto, iTunes, Gimp etc. Produces less heat than the old drive, as judging by readings gotten from iStat Pro. So far it seems reliable.
- Cons: Produces more noise than the 120gb 5400rpm drive that it replaced, which is to be expected. Leopard recognizes only 232.9GB.
Perfecto
- Pros: So far this hard drive has been what I would call ideal, though I find neweggs shipping methods a bit odd. Popped it in, and installed windows, and have monitored it fairly closely. It has consistant temperatures (40-45C), and brought my wei HD level up to a 5.8!
- Cons: Newegg ships these things like a 16 year. Bubble wrap, tape, and a box. It works, but it is ghetto!
Good Laptop HDD Replacement
- Pros: This drive is nice and quiet, runs relatively cool for a 7200rpm and is priced well. If you lookup this drive at Tom's Hardware, you will see it outperforms many in its class. A fairly noticable difference in write performance from replacing my 5200rpm drive, and a nice boost in read.
- Cons: An easily noticeable difference in power consumption, this drive is very power hungry.
- Other Thoughts: I replaced my old 5200rpm Seagate (stock) drive in my Lenovo T61 with this and noticed only a slight difference in performance (Vista). My boot time was only improved slightly. Good replacement drive for the $$$.
