3 out of 5 eggsLasted 4 years

Pros: Was inexpensive at the time and worked fine for about 4 and a half years in a RAID5 config until it died.

Cons: First drive to fail. The other two drives in the array are Samsungs purchased at the same time, and those are still spinning.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When it worked it worked fine

Cons: This is truly a bad drive. I have this thing flashed to the latest firmware that was supposed to save the drive but it still has issues. It's extremely frustrating to lose this much data.

The drive will come back to life if you restart the computer or simply pull the power to the drive and reset but any sort of transfers will kill it within a few minutes.

Not only is the drive unreliable, it runs hot. In the same case, this drive will run at around 40C when my samsung F1 1TB runs at 27C

Other Thoughts: Avoid this drive.

Seagate has gone down the gutters. Samsung and WD for me now on.

1 out of 5 eggsCrashed after a year of use

Pros: 7200 RPMS

Cons: Died after a year of use

Other Thoughts: Sent it into Drive Savers, said it suffered from a Sever Electromechanical failure & that the PCB was fried. They do not think a spike, surge or lag caused it.

2 out of 5 eggsshort life

Pros: Good drive while it lasted

Cons: Had a RAID volume fail and thought sure it was the controller - never had a HD go out in just a couple months before.

Other Thoughts: No return after 30 days - need to check Western Digital

5 out of 5 eggskeepin' fingers crossed

Pros: This is my middle level backup drive. I have a raid 0 for the system and files; then this drive for daily incremental backups; then an external drive for monthly backups. all seagate... maybe I'm brand biased. anyway, the drive worked fine with tons of files thrown at it. large files, small files, many, few etc. no problems whatsoever. silent drive too.

Cons: I'm using almico's speedfan to keep an eye on temps and smart, and the tests come back iffy on the fitness chart. but there are no system errors or anything of sorts. temps now on this drive are 35C (3 below the MB and 4 over the raid drives...), the max was 46C probably during the initial backup. not bad, but not too cool either. very airy case, antec p182.

Other Thoughts: I hope it lasts.
I hope seagate will come back to its shine; they got a real beating in the beginning of the year; the other day I dug out my drive from 1992 and it's seagate :)))))) I bet it still works :)

1 out of 5 eggs75% DOA or lemon rate.

Pros: Big space and low cost. When they work, they're also very quiet.

Cons: I have bought 4 of these drives, and 3 of them have failed within seconds to hours of on-time. I initially bought 2; one was DOA, the other developed bad sectors. I've RMA'd one, and the replacement I bought is still working OK. I bought one more to replace the one with bad sectors and it lasted just long enough to write a partition table and then started making croaking noises and now won't be recognized by the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: When the last of these drives I bought failed, I went to Best Buy (I was in a hurry) and bought a Western Digital 1 TB drive for $30 more, and it's worked like a charm from the start.
