Seagate Momentus hard drives provide the optimum combination of performance, capacity and mobility in a 2.5-inch form factor. They are also a good fit in certain non-PC applications, including external storage, copiers/printers and entry-level blade servers.
Pros: Capacity, speed, quiet. Bootup, app startup and vmware machines are noticeably faster that before upgrade. Power consumption and battery life are unchanged. I think it is slightly quieter than the oem drive.

Pros: Amazing drive. Very fast.. My previous drive was WD3200BEVT (320GB, 5400RPM, 8MB Buffer) and the HDTune benchmark results are:
WD3200BEVT: Average Read - 51.5 MB/sec This one: Average Read - 77.3MB/sec
There is a 50% boost in performance and this is clearly noticeable while using. Vista boots faster, programs open faster, rar files extract faster etc. etc.
Cons: Seems like slightly more noisy than my old drive (WD3200BEVT) especially during searching files... It is not definitely disturbing...
Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best, as always...

Pros: Very easy install. Works flawlessly. Not loud, not hot, doesn't draw battery down much at all compared to the original 5400 rpm SATA 3.0 250 GB drive.

Pros: -7200rpm spindle speed -high capacity -standard 2.5" form factor -works great in a Macbook Pro (pre unibody)
Cons: -Is warmer than stock -Has slight vibration with high I/O -Both are to be expected though (5400->7200rpm)
Other Thoughts: Works great! When the drive load is low (casual browsing/chatting), the thing is dead silent. When giving it heavy I/O though, it does vibrate a bit and gets a bit warm, but honestly, that's to be expected with such an upgrade. I'm guessing it's more apparent to new buyers since they're busy reloading the new disk with data (programs, pictures, etc).
All hard drives are a gamble on their life cycle, so we'll see how that goes, but thus far, I couldn't be happier.

Pros: Speed, Capacity
Cons: Noise (just above indifference, not enough to worry), Doesn't ship with latest firmware, Bare Drive so no documentation though really none needed
Other Thoughts: Like the user prior I got excellent XBench results. The Seagate gave me an improvement of +20 on the disk test compared to the original Hitachi 5400RPM drive. Performance wise there is nothing to complain about. Waited a week just to see how it would break in. So far so good. However, this drive seems noisy to me. It's constantly whirring and clicking. It also seems to make the laptop purr. Maybe you'll like it. Not annoyingly so but enough to notice. Only 4 stars since this doesn't ship with the latest FW and Seagate appears not to really want to provide the updated legal driver to non OEM customers
