2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price, when I got it.
Storage size.

Cons: Enclosure is not properly vented, really could use a fan.
After it gets a bit warm, it starts giving I/O errors, have to unplug it and let it cool for about 30-45 minutes to use it again.
When it is working, transfer speeds are a bit on the slow side.

Other Thoughts: Had this for a little over a year, worked great for the first couple months. then it started with the errors.

Just got through backing up everything I could to my new storage drive(an internal this time, don't have to worry about junk enclosures and heat issues).
Reformatted it and the drive itself seems fine, so I think it was the usb-sata interface in the enclosure(something getting desoldered with the heat). Might just pull the drive and use it as another internal if it checks out with seatools.

5 out of 5 eggsThings still chuggin a year later

Pros: This thing is resilient. Over the year I've dropped this thing so many times and much to my delight, it has never failed on me.

Cons: expensive for 1TB, bulky beyond belief - don't plan on carrying this thing around, it's heavy. Not a passport so it needs AC power.

2 out of 5 eggsFantasticly awful

Pros: Huge storage, nice looking, comes with the required cables needed to function, fairly fast (except when first accessed).

Cons: This drive makes clicking noises after about 2 minutes of light use. The clicking continues until powered-off. The clicking is loud! It sounds like when the drive arm isn't moving properly on any other drive. It's distracting.

Other Thoughts: Please don't be tempted by the size. 1TB drives are ubiquitous now.

5 out of 5 eggsStill ticking.

Pros: Ticking probably is a bad way to describe a hard drive. It's still working over a year. That's good for my bad experiences.

Cons: Slow, but it's big.

Other Thoughts: Can't have it all for this price.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: Great quality and durable. First impressions of this product can be deceiving. The plastic cover to the external looks really cheap. I keep this sitting on top of my tower on my desk and after taking nearly a 4 foot fall to my hardwood floor, and surviving, it has proven quite the tough drive.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I will definitely purchase a second as the need arises.

1 out of 5 eggsWill live just past warranty

Pros: Sits nicely on my desk as a paperweight?

Cons: Died after 1.5 years of VERY light use. Very, very limited warranty (1 year).

Other Thoughts: Started getting I/O errors from the drive when I tried copying data to and from it. Used Seagate's disk utility and it diagnosed that the drive had bad sectors. It then check my warranty status and said it was expired (which it was, cause the warranty is for 12 months...I've had it for 18).

I use to buy only Seagate drives, however, Seagate has completely lost any semblance of quality control. They now consistently ships out drives that either die on arrive, or die prematurely. They all seem to fail because of bad sectors. In other words, they make a defective product, and are happy to put it on the market to steal our hard earned money.

I can't see myself buying a Seagate drive ever again with all the alternatives out there with much better CUSTOMER reviews, as well as the usual corporate hype.

4 out of 5 eggsWorking fine as of now

Pros: I bought in good deal, its not portable but works fine for my heavy data storage. Stored Data can be accessed with out any problem. No delays. I am happy with download time.
Works fast and fine when connected to one of my laptops.

Cons: This doesn't work good when connected to one of my other laptop. Gives message not Connected and some other. Not sure if problem is with my laptop or Hard drive. when other Hardrives are connected to this system they work fine. Found issues when loading heavy data or when tried to navigate fast within Drive docs
