1 out of 5 eggsNothing good to say.

Pros: Easy to hookup, USB 2.0 speeds were decent.

Cons: This drive was dead within 2 months of easy use. My wife lost some important photos and other data in this drive. Seagate wanted $75 to "recover" the data from this drive. Will not own a Seagate drive again.

Other Thoughts: I have no idea why this drive failed. I have a 250GB Iomega drive that is almost 6 years old that I will continue to trust.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, gets the job done, lots of space. Benchmarks at 30Mbps read/write. Great for keeping with your laptop for extra storage.

Cons: Not quite the best for running programs from or doing lots of consistent read/writes. Occasionally it will hang for up to 45 seconds while it does....something. I don't know if it's spin-up time or what.

Other Thoughts: People have mentioned the short cable being an issue. Personally I think it's just right if you're setting the drive on top of your case or using it portably with a laptop or something.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: Small, USB 2.0, good speed, no external power needed, and reliable.

Cons: Software included is really really really bad. I install, because I wanted to check it out. I uninstalled within a week and really wish I would have never installed. Did not cause any problems, just really annoying.

Other Thoughts: Don't install the software and it's all good.

1 out of 5 eggsVery disappointed

Pros: Right now, none that I can think of...

Cons: It totally DIED on me! I had stored photographs, music and tons of personal data on this... luckily, only as a back up in case my computer crashed. Who knew this would die? One day I hooked it up to my computer to back up some information and I started getting weird messages on my screen that I had to download software that I had never downloaded before. My computer didn't recognize that the drive was plugged in. I tried several different cables, hoping it was a cable issue... nope. I know it had power because the green power light was flickering like crazy. I even brought it to one of the IT guys at my work. He couldn't figure what was wrong with it either. So, now I have a $70 paperweight on my desk... VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

5 out of 5 eggsDoes its job without my thinking about it

Pros: Used as a TimeMachine backup drive for an iMac. Runs without errors, sound or any real heat. Brought the system back to life after system hard drive died.

Cons: Not particularly fast, but speed is not needed for what I use it for.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed During Backup

Pros: Worked great during normal. I had tons of music and movies stored on it and used it to periodically backup my regular data. Nice looking.

Cons: When my computer's internal hard drive showed signs of failing one day, I freaked out and decided to backup my data to this external drive. I usually did this by copying files directly from my internal drive, but this time I tried using the Windows Backup feature in Control Panel. The backup stalled at about 10%. After that, the drive either was not recognized by the computer or would not allow me to access the data on it. Only at one point could I normally access the data, during which I copied everything to a friend's other external drive.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure who is at fault here - Microsoft or Seagate. But since I got it from a big box retailer and the warranty is expired, I have no chance of getting a refund. :(

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Compact.
Decent size.

Cons: Short Cable.
Causing programs to not respond when saving files, this occurs on multiple machines.

4 out of 5 eggspower startup problems

Pros: drive runs very quiet, copies data at speeds you would expect from a 5,200 rpm usb powered drive, snappy response time from "sleep" mode to being usable. good price for storage size.
small size, can fit into pockets. usb powered (can be negative too). quick setup.

Cons: This drive had some problems properly drawing power from the usb ports on my desktop, if the drive was connected to the computer when the computer was turned on the drive would not start with the computer and give an unknown device error until I disconnected and reconnected the drive (worked fine until restart). tried different cords, updated chipsets/bios tested the drive for errors a number of different ways... no dice. My other external drive with its own power supply works fine so I figured it was a power issue.

What finally fixed it was buying a cable specifically designed for external drives, that can actually draw enough power from the usbs to come on with the system properly.

also the cord its shipped with is completely useless because it is so ungodly short, its fine for laptops but the drive barely reaches the floor from my lowest usb port on my desktop case. but thats not the reason for the lost egg.

Other Thoughts: with a proper cable that allows the drive to power on with the system, it works like a dream. I think the issue I had was fairly rare, and I would recommend this drive. Don't let my mishaps discourage you, its a good drive for a good price.
