3 out of 5 eggs3 of 4 Drives dead after 5 years

Pros: Low power. Cheap.

Cons: Drive failure rate is fairly high after a few years. I had 3 of 4 drives die over a 5 year span. I thought a little more life would be nice.

Pros: Good size. Good Price

Cons: Couldnt figure out for the life of me the drive was failing.

Other Thoughts: Ive had this drive for 4 -5 years. I recently had a PSU blow up and unfortunally it damaged the HDD. SMART said the drive was fine but i was getting random BSODs 0x124(General Hardware Error) Since SMART said it was fine i didnt think it was my HDD... Spent over 500 bucks replacing everything and it still crashed... put a 160g drive in and it worked fine...

My Advice... Dont trust SMART status.

Pros: Large amount of data storage

Other Thoughts: I have had this hard drive for some time now and I have had to get it replaced once in a three year span so thats not to bad. If you ask me you should invest a little more money into a good hard drive. This hdd has a bad transfer rate and runs hot unless you have good cooling. I don't want to bad mouth the people who make this drive cause having it replaced was a breeze and I am quite sure they have a great line of products. This product is not for me.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo Drives Failed in 6 Months

Pros: One drive lasted a month longer than the other one did. Seagate did replace them.

Cons: Two of these drives, in RAID1, failed in under 6 months. Failure was preceded by lots of errors.

Other Thoughts: Two drives in RAID1, housing part of a photo archive. Usage was not very heavy, not much was ever deleted from the array, mostly written, read once or twice. A similar array with Hitachi drives is doing OK. Both arrays are cooled well, and the machine is never moved.

Pros: I purchased because of low price. The adage - 'you get what you pay for' holds true.

Cons: I purchased on May 26th. The first failure was 8/26th. Replaced by Seagate - failed 2nd time on 10/28
Replaced by Seagate - failed 3rd time on 11/29

Other Thoughts: Avoid this Drive

Pros: None Now Wish I Could Give It 0 Eggs. Lost 1 gig of dvd backups.

Cons: RMA Process,1 you have to run the seagate tools It Fails,Then The Webpage Tells You OEM Go Back To Newegg.Newegg Gives Me 1 800 #. I,ll Call Them But I.m Guessing Any Co. That Makes It This Much Trouble Is Trying To Discourage Anyway.What A Joke!

Other Thoughts: I Buy Alot Of HD. NEVER SEAGATE AGAIN.

Pros: Just plugged it into my ReadyNAS duo and it worked. It's totally silent. The ReadyNAS duplicated the other, older Seagate drive in the RAID pair. It runs cooler than the previous generation Barracuda

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Take this from me, you have to have redundancy of your backups. Be sure you get a backup solution and that it has redundancy in the drives.
