It's a HDD!

Pros: Quiet

1 drive failed but replaced by Seagate
Could be cheaper (~$100 would be a perfect price point)
Other Thoughts: I have 7 of these drives in 2 machines. One desktop with a single drive and one Ubuntu box with 5 drives set up with a hardware Raid 5 + 1 hot swap drive. During the past year I had one go bad, BIOS would recognize the drive but it would hang the entire PC (tried this on several boards). Seagate replaced the drive with a refurb (expected). Otherwise working without issue. Not as fast as 7200 rpm drives but plenty fast enough for streaming HD Bluray & HD DVD conversions to multiple XBMC ION boxes. If you are building a Raid 5, 6, 10 array using less 2 TB drives might be a cheaper alternative once you reach the 5+ TB level.

Drive failure after 6 months

Pros: Worked fine first few months of use, nice GB/$ ratio, large storage capacity, quiet drive.
Cons: slow, defective after 6 months. Drive would crash randomly while left idle, disk boot failure occured after a few months, xp files were corrupted, i manged to recover the data as a 2ndary drive on another pc, installed a fresh copy of windows 7, ran fine for 2 months then the boot failures again. Left off for a day, windows boots but files are inaccessable and drive response is practically nill.
Other Thoughts: I thought Seagate was at the top in terms of reliabilty but now my opinions have changed. Going to be moving over to a WD Caviar Black and use 2 smaller drives instead of one big one.

Pros: So far, so good. The reviews i read were so-so but the price was so cheap so I bought it anyway. Well, so far it has been a great HDD. I am using is as storage so it isn't being hit all the time but when I do, it is fast and solid.
