This drive allows users to do more while using less power. The Barracuda LP drives deliver on low-power consumption. But low power no longer means slow power.

3 out of 5 eggs4 year old drive did me well

Pros: lots of storage. cheap.

Cons: after almost 4 years, she finally kicked the dust. crazy thing though is my other 3 drives, which are MUCH older (IDE drives. its an old system) are still kickin. They also all 3 happen to be western digitals as well. think i just might go with them for my next one.

Other Thoughts: can still access, but i'm getting the click of death. still works somewhat as i'm transferring over some things i want to keep, but other than that its just full of old movies i will probably never watch again. luckily no super important data on there. it has served its purpose.

also somewhat of a worthless review, considering i'm sure this thing is LOOONG discontinued lol

1 out of 5 eggsCame with fatally flawed firmware

Pros: I got 2 of them for free because a friend had so many problems he didn't trust them anymore. (even if I could fix them)

Cons: These things came with flawed firmware on them (CC34). They were clicking like crazy and constantly losing connection.

Other Thoughts: You need to flash firmware CC35 onto these drives otherwise they were doing the click of death. Go to seagates website and download the ISO image and burn it to a disk. Boot to the disk and use it to upgrade the firmware to a tested version. I say "tested" because nobody could have truly tested these things at seagate given how obvious the problems were. Somebody needs a new guy in charge of the QA department. ;)

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: At the time the drive was still being sold, I guess the price was high. But worth it I guess. Got the drive about 2/4/2010 and it's been running flawlessly ever since. 100% satisfied.

Cons: None atm

Other Thoughts: I guess now there's other drives that's about the same for half the price. But, hindsight is 20/20. Wish I could get the same drive again for a cheaper price. Unfortunatley, the item is deactivated though.

1 out of 5 eggsShame...

Pros: Lots of space for not a lot of money... but read the cons...

Cons: Started clicking just under a year old.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame... and an awful waste of money to have to replace a hard drive after just shy of a year.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Good for RAID 5

Pros: -The price per TB is incredible.
-Great drive for RAID 1 or RAID 0

Cons: I have purchased 12 of these drives, and so far 1 hard drive has gone bad within the first month, and a 2nd drive went within 100 operating hours. I have all of them in a RAID 5 configuration, even with minimal system access the drives sill went bad. Also these run extremely hot, ventilation, or in my case, Koolance HD-60 coolers are REQUIRED or they will cook themselves and fail.

Other Thoughts: I'm using an Areca 12 port SATA card, the overall speed seems horrible for a RAID 5 when they were all running (under 200MB/s) but when it was still working was absolutely great. Tech support claimed these drives could work in a RAID 0 or a RAID 1 efficiently but a RAID 5 was "untested" and recommended a enterprise drive for RAID 5, which costs 3.25x more per TB.

1 out of 5 eggsDismal failure

Pros: Usually this brand is reliable. This time it was NOT!

Cons: This HD operated as promised for a few months and then failed. When I tried to re-format it, it would only accept a .5Tb partition instead of the promised 1.5Tb. After many efforts and trials with various Seagate tech software programs, another tech confirmed a failure on the HD's internal logic. Now I'm faced with a secondary hassle trying to get Seagate to replace it. I'm not hopeful.

1 out of 5 eggsMove on!

Pros: It's huge! Started clicking before it died.

Cons: It died. My drive now clicks like crazy. CrystalDiskInfo reported some problems with it. After 53 Power Ons and 7,262 hours of being on the drive needs to be retired. It was good while it lasted. And I tried looking up my warranty on Seagate's website and it says the drive doesn't exist. I got it at a big box Frying store!

Other Thoughts: Good while it lasted. My last Seagate anything.

4 out of 5 eggsOne Year Later

Pros: Like the title says, I have had this drive for over a year, and I have not had one issue with it. Runs cool, has plenty of space for anything I feel like downloading, and one year later no click of death! Bought this drive 1/28/2010, and I'm very happy with its performance.

Cons: Currently have 600GB used, and I do notice performance has lessened with storage increasing, but that's only to be expected.

Other Thoughts: Wishes the reviews on the 7200.11 drive were better. Bought this drive when all this, "Click of Death" stuff was going on, but I've never had the issue personally.
