All are funtioning well with no bad sectors or SMART failures after 5 days of running stress tools. Cons: Complaint: Came with CC34 firmware and was unable to update the drives to CC35 using Seagate's Firmware update tool. Other Thoughts: Drives do click a bit when parking/unparking the head, but apparently that's normal operation now? Unclear feedback on the above problem and being unable to update the Firmware with Seagate's tool knocks two eggs off the score of this HDD. Did you find this review helpful? Other Thoughts: Seagate's quality control has fallen dramatically in the last several years. I used to buy Seagate exclusively, now I'm switching to Western Digital. I have yet to have a Western Digital drive fail (though obviously they have their issues too). Also, when Seagate sends replacement drives, they are refurb'ed units, and you pay for shipping (to them). No, I'm not a happy camper. Did you find this review helpful? Cons: None yet, and I don't expect any. Other Thoughts: I thought I had some concerns about Seagate drives when I purchased 2 750 GB drives a year ago. Turned out to be a power supply issue, as the clicking went away after I upgraded the PS. I have 4 750 GB Seagates (1 to 2 yrs old), 2 350 GB Seagates (3 yrs old), and this new 2GB drive. I've never had a DOA or disk failure. Keep your system cool and get a good PS. I will be buying another and sticking with Seagate. Did you find this review helpful? Installed the drive and it was up and running in minutes. Copied ~700GB of data onto it with no problems. I was also pleasantly surprised with how quiet it is and how little heat it generates (relatively speaking). Pitne 8/22/2010 7:46:28 AM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 2/5 Verified Owner	Rating: 5/5Pretty Good Pros: Bought 5 for Raid 5 in Synology DS1010+. All 5 working fine. Updated firmware to CC35 because I had read a forum where someone was saying that upgrading to CC35 fixed raid degradation issues he was having. Had to force update though. (You need to use the boot cd method then you'll have to type in a long string command to force the update, Google for more info) Cons: These drives do 'click'. Although it doesn't sound like I had envisioned after reading about it prior to ordering. It sounds more like a loud seek with a more distinct higher pitch noise. I've only noticed it when these drives come on after hibernation or just turning the power on. It doesn't sound like it's causing damage but then again I'm not an expert in this area. Accessing and using the drives does cause some noise. Seems a little loud for a green drive. Comparable to some previous generation 7200RPM drives I'd say. Other Thoughts: With the Synology DiskStation, it asks if you want to do a parity check or something when you first create the raid. I did the full test which took like 15 or so hours (with 2TB x 5 raid 5). It passed with no issues. Also ran the extended smart test which took like 6 hours or so. Also all drives passed. Overall I'm happy but then again I might do some more research next time to get a drive that can offer a little more piece of mind Did you find this review helpful? Tried transferring files off the drive and kept getting errors. Ran Seatools. It found one drive failed and the other was failing.
