The brand new Seagate Barracuda LP (low-power) family is here, designed and built by the desktop performance leader, but with the primary focus on a low-power, cool and quiet drive at an entry-level price. This drive allows users to do more while using less power. The Barracuda LP drives deliver on low-power consumption. But low power no longer means slow power. Benchmark performance results prove the 5900-RPM spin speed advantages (when compared to competitor drives that spin at 5400 RPMs). And these drives are cool and easy on the PC, often requiring fewer fans, a smaller power supply and lower maintenance costs. It’s the definition of energy efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Chuggin'

Pros: Owned since 11/27/2010, back then I got it for $69 each and I purchased 4 of them. So far they all work flawlessly and beautifully. No problems. I have them in MediaSonic Raid array in raid 5.

Cons: Tiny bit slow, saving/accessing, not bad though

Other Thoughts: Still very happy, little nervous it might die here in year two but I am not too worried about rebuild as others have had good luck.

1 out of 5 eggsAVOID!!

Pros: Drive is large capacity and energy efficient.

Cons: Where to begin... when I first bought 4 of these a couple years ago it was with the intent to create an internal RAID 5 array in my desktop PC. I am still using 3 of the drives in the RAID and saving the 4th as a backup in case of failure. Periodically, these drives will start to make a clicking noise and fail to start up. When this happens, it causes Windows to be unable to shut down forcing me to flip the power switch to power down my PC. This is a BAD problem, as whenever it happens my RAID array must completely rebuild (about an 8 HOUR process). This is because when the drive started clicking, the RAID controller registered it as a failure and the RAID became temporarily degraded... When power to the system is restored, however, the drives always seem to start up just fine and I have no problems for a while. Still, the fact that these drives do this AT ALL is pretty serious and I really wish I had gone with a different brand/model.

Other Thoughts: You want to know that the data on your drives is safe and won't suddenly disappear. These drives and their periodic "hiccups" make me worry. You don't want to worry about your data. DO NOT buy this drive.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: After 2 years it still runs great and is the only hard drive that hasn't been replaced in the server at our house. Never broke down, great price, easy to use, fast. Definitely worth a five egg rating.

Cons: Can't say i've ever had any problems or issues.

4 out of 5 eggsSurprised it's still running.

Pros: *Runs quiet and cool
*An absurd amount of volume for a cheap price.

Cons: *Getting paranoid about all the comments of people's HDDs dying within a year. About to hit 1 1/2 years with this drive and I'm not sure if I should still be using this thing...
*Slow, but I can care less.

Other Thoughts: People need to read before buying this drive. Sure it's 2TB but don't do anything intense that'll cause it to die within the year. Green can only go so far compared to actual machinery.

1 out of 5 eggsSecond time Seagate burned me

Pros: I got this drive for $60 Black Friday 2010

Cons: It has been about 10 months, and the drive is bad. SMART status fails, and Fedora is spitting out I/O errors any time I try to read from it.

Other Thoughts: After the 7200.11 firmware debacle a few years back I promised to never buy Seagate again. Low price clouded my judgement last Black Friday, and I will NEVER let that happen again. I highly recommend purchasing ANY manufacturer other than Seagate.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks after a year!

Pros: Hasn't failed on me. Runs great in a little Atom box NAS setup.

Cons: Slow seek over the network at times. But that might not be the drive...

Other Thoughts: Got it for 70$ last year. Can't be happier!

2 out of 5 eggsSeagate is a painful and expensive mistake

Pros: Lots of space. That's where it ends

Cons: I've had this drive since December 2010. It's the beginning of August 2011. The boot drive says it's bad ALREADY. I'm going to have to send it back to Seagate and wait for it to be replaced. Painful, as I had to copy all of the video from it to my backup only drive, and hope that it doesn't fail in the meantime...

Other Thoughts: I will probably never buy from Seagate again as this is the 2nd bad drive that I've gotten from them in different capacities in different years. WD is the way to go, as they've stood by for years and have yet to totally fail me like this one did.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't buy Seagate again.

Pros: 3 year warranty (you'll need it). Receiving 2 bad drives DOA reminded me not to RAID-1 same lot drives together (Thanks, Seagate!).

Cons: 2 drives ordered, both arrived DOA.

Other Thoughts: Returned for warranty service. A week after FexEx shows "delivered", Seagate site still "Not received". Had to fight with Customer Service about the phone line being unavailable. Was promised a call back by COB and didn't get it until next day.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive Failue after 10-months

Even though the drive says it is bad, I can still run the computer (F1 on boot).

Cons: The drive currently is bad according to the bood diagnostic. I am in process of returning it to the manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsBought these w/STAR401 BlackArmor NAS System

Pros: Great price
Easy to install
Seagate is easy to work with (once you get through to tech support)

Cons: ALWAYS call Seagate if you have any issues
Seagate Tech support takes awhile to get through to

Other Thoughts: Initially we had an issue in drives failing with this unit. Newegg had gladly offered to have them returned when we decided to contact Seagate about this issue (really glad we did)...
After we downloaded and upgraded to the latest firmware the drives worked GREAT without any issues.
It's been running for 4 months and haven't had a problem.
Great system!!
