1 out of 5 eggsDeath

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: At about the 2-3 year mark most of (and I am not overstating this) my clients that have these installed have had them die. 20% of the refurbished ones that replace them die within a month. Pretty awful drive

4 out of 5 eggsFunctions well, is noisy.

Pros: Has performed flawlessly for about 2 years. Read/write speeds are good for what it is. I've used it in an external enclosure (eSATA), as a data drive.

Cons: Since the first time I powered it up, it's had a somewhat high pitch "whine" to it. It's bearable, although I can't sleep in the same room with it running.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value!

Pros: This drive does not fail to deliver, complements my other components quite well, and I am not sorry that I bought this drive.

Cons: I can no longer get another for the same low price I paid just over a year ago.

Other Thoughts: System Components:

2 out of 5 eggsHope for a LONG Warranty

Pros: Cheap, long warranty, and decent throughput.

Cons: 3 out of 4 Died. 2 DOA when I purchased them, 1 died after 10 month of use which exhibited bad sectors.

Other Thoughts: It's hard to trust modern day hard drives with that much data so I bought these to be used in RAID 1 setup (Intel Matrix Rapid Storage). As mentioned, 2 arrived DOA, 1 died later, I got a spare from another vendor to keep the RAID going in case of a failure. I'm giving their 750 Momentum XT at try in hopes that they don't die within a year.

3 out of 5 eggsGot three years out of it

Pros: Fast and no delays after its been idle.

Cons: its about to die after 3 years which seems to be good these days but my old IDE Baracudas are still going strong after 7 years.

Other Thoughts: What has happened to Seagate? Its not like it used to be since Maxtor scooped them up.

1 out of 5 eggsWill disappear randomly

Pros: None

Cons: Disappears randomly after restarting. Sometimes will reappear if you restart again. Sometimes it won't. Drive appears to be healthy when it does show up. Updating the firmware doesn't fix it. Warranty will only send you another one of these worthless hard drives that will just fail in the same way.

Other Thoughts: As soon as the drive reappears, backup all your data to another location. Once that's done, ditch this hard drive and get something else. I'm done with Seagate. What good is a warranty if the replacement suffers from the same issue as the original?

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: Responsive, again this is the updated version.

Cons: None for the 7200 rpm range. Wish I had bought more when I had the chance.

Other Thoughts: Seagate for me has had it's ups and downs. This drive redeemed them 100% for me. I drive by their office in my town in Colorado every day, give me a job! I'd even mop floors and clean bathrooms!

1 out of 5 eggsFailing

Pros: Good price at the time

Cons: I've gotten about 2 years out of this drive but now I'm getting S.M.A.R.T warnings that this drive is failing. 2 years is completely unacceptable! I work IT for a large business and we've had a ton of Seagate Barracuda's fail in the past 2 years.

Time to go HD shopping again and it wont be a seagate for sure.

3 out of 5 eggsSeaGates still the best!

Pros: Quiet, fast, and Cheap.

If drive didnt die out on me 5 Eggs. Bought for $60 bux 11 months ago. First Seagate to go out on me, i changed from Western Digital after a HD died like 8 yrs ago and gave seagate a try, never changed back. I enjoy the reliability and quietness of seagate. Just RMA with seagate and waiting for replacement.

Cons: Died

Other Thoughts: 1st time seagate has had tech failure (for me)

Also i dont like their shippiing method for return but assume most HD companys will require similiar methods. Need orignal packaging or a purchase is required.

Was able to save files (used it as a media drive)
