1 out of 5 eggsJust failed

Pros: Worked for 2.25 years

Cons: Warranty only good for 2 years.

Other Thoughts: Previous seagate to this one I bought is 6 years old going strong. Most recent Seagate NAS had issues. Must be decreasing quality of products at the company. Wont be buying anymore Seagate products for a long time

1 out of 5 eggsThree of these failed

Pros: Can't think of any. Seagate used to be a source of rock solid dependable drives

Cons: We have had three of these 750's fail after a year of service. Were used in RAID setups. Tried repairing the drives with Seatools but to no avail. The three are being RMA'd back to Seagate. Not sure what we'll do with the replacements but we're using WD and Samsung now.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame - for years Seagate used to be our drive of choice but now we can't depend on them. We've switched to WD and Samsung - we'll see how long they last.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD

Pros: This Hard drive is quick and has lots of room for storage. I have had this drive for almost 6 mouths now with no problems....knock on wood.

Cons: This hard drive is a bit thick. I had trouble getting it to fit in it's bay after installing a duel fan cooler on it.

4 out of 5 eggsStill working 6 months later

Pros: 32 meg cache
7200rpm
price (if you catch it on special)

I use this as a storage drive, my primary boot drive is an SSD. In that role it works great. I have had DOA Seagate drives in the past, but remember that these drive do have a warranty. The Seagate RMA process is excellent. Its easy, and you have multiple replacement options. As far as this particular drive is concerned, I needed something cheap, spacious, and relatively quiet. I put my Steam folder on it, all of my media, and it doesn't get very hot, even after prolonged periods of use. I highly recommend the SSD boot drive/mechanical storage paradigm. This drive has filled that role nicely. I'm thinking about buying another one to RAID.

Cons: In this price range, all HDD manufacturer's drives will have some that arrive dead, and some that fail sooner than they should. That's a given. But it does seem like these cheaper drives are more likely to be defective. However, it's not limited to Seagate, and the chances of getting two DOA units back to back is truly remote.

Other Thoughts: I always wonder when I see a review saying that a customer has recived 2 or sometimes 3 back to back failed units. I wonder how some people don't get the hint. DOAs and premature failures will happen, but not twice in a row under most circumstances. Consider you may have a problem with your power supply or onboard SATA controller before you assume it's the manufacturer's fault. Sometimes its UPS's fault if you get a bad HDD. But if you keep having drives die on you, take a closer look at your set up and your practices. Bad power supplies can spike your drives dead instantly, or slowly over time. Heat will slowly kill a HDD. If you're using a power supply that came with your $30 case, or you have an emachines from 8 years ago, do some reasearch into your PSU. If your gear keeps dying every so often, please, get a decent power supply. There are some fantastically reliable and cheap 80+ units out there. Buy one. Save some parts.
