1 out of 5 eggsNOT the Same as the Maxtor

Pros: It's like any other external hard drive and works if that is all you are looking for. The backup software that comes with this drive doesn't justify the price.

Cons: We purchased three of these drives with the belief that they were the same as the Maxtor BlackArmor drives that allowed full password protected encryption of the drive. Although the specifications state "Utilizes the same software package as all other BlackArmor products for ease of installation and management." this is NOT the case. These drives do not allow you to password protect the drives.

Seagate should not be calling these BlackArmor drives as they were called by Maxtor if they are not going to provide the same functionality. Although I've been a fan of Seagate for years, this right here is enough for me to think twice before ever buying a Seagate product again.

Other Thoughts: This is unacceptable!

2 out of 5 eggsNo Hardware Encryption

Pros: Decent enternal drive.

Cons: If you buying this, like me, because you have used the excellent Maxtor BackArmor drives in the past you will be disappointed.

When they took over Maxtor, Seagate dropped the excellent Maxtor BlackArmor line of hardware encrypted drives and is now plastering the brand on their ordinary external drives.

The deceptive part is that they still claim AES256 encryption but that's only available through the bundled backup software (which is not very good)

Other Thoughts: Deceptive re-use of a recognizable top-of-the-line brand for an inferior product.
