The Seagate FreeAgent Go portable drive offers 640 GB of storage in a package smaller than a hardback novel. You can hardly feel any weight when you put it in your suitcase or backpack, so it's easy to take on the road! Instead of annoying bright LED indicators, the drive features an array of white led lights that blinks a beautiful slow fading effect to show activity.

This 640GB drive offers the speed and reliability of USB 2.0, and works as a Plug n Play device with contemporary operating systems. The 5400RPM spindle speed ensures that the drive can keep up with the data flow across the bus. The included easy-to-use software helps keep your information safe and private with automatic backup and encryption of your important files and folders.

It's all about having your photos, music, videos, and more with you – when and where you need them!

3 out of 5 eggsnot compatible with FreeAgent Theater

Pros: This works fine as a USB drive. Doesn't require a separate power supply, just USB.

Cons: Although it physically fits into the Seagate FreeAgent Theater HD Media Player - STCEA101-RK, it is not compatible with it. The player only recognizes smaller drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat slim drive

Pros: Small, sleek, quite and requires no extra power beyond what USB can provide.

Cons: The lights on top can be annoying when I have the drive hooked up to my PopCorn Hour media player

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace another USB drive that required more USB power than my Popcorn Hour could supply. I use it to transfer large movies (8GB+) from my laptop to the media player. Its great! Huge capacity, silent and low power requirements make it a win.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall, light weight, fast, quiet - what else is there?

Pros: Simply the best portable external hard drive I've owned (and I have had Western Digital, Iomega and Seagate).

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mobile Drive

Pros: I bought this drive right before being sent over to Iraq, and thus far it's performed marvelously, I also own a similar 320gb version that performs the same.

Most compact 2.5 drive available, very easy to pack around.
Decent data transfer rates for its size.
640GB in something weighing 1/3 of a LB.

Cons: Other than the expected slower data transfer rate none.

Other Thoughts: My particular drive has been abused over the last 6 months. It's been sat on, kicked, dropped multiple times, and smashed under equipment and yet it's still up and running. I very much like the design compared to the 2.5in drives that I've seen. It seems to function well enough in my tent where temperatures in the summer can easily reach 120 inside when the AC breaks.

3 out of 5 eggsSeagate FreeAgent

Pros: Stylish, decent price, and usb powered without external power cord. 5yr warranty is great too. Device is great for copying and transporting files.

Cons: doesn't support Mac OS unless you reformat it to FAT. By doing so, you will remove the factory software. Case can get a little warm but only if used for an extended period of time.

Other Thoughts: This would be a much better drive if is supported PC and Mac.

1 out of 5 eggsworks partially

Pros: Shipped fast and large.

Cons: It wouldn't even turn on right away. Just started clicking. Now that it's on it won't let me transfer anything if it'll take longer than 5 minutes. It just clicks, shuts off and turns back on again. Luckily I haven't lost any data

Other Thoughts: I'm returning and going to try again as Seagate has been good in the past. I have 5+ year old hdd from them. We'll see how this works.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for backups

Pros: small package -- just 1cm wider, 1cm longer, and 2-3mm higer than a standard 2.5" notebook HD. The built-in USB-to-SATA adapter is smart enough to allow the access to the HD's S.M.A.R.T. system (e.g. by saying "smartctl -d sat -a /dev/sdb"). Seagate warranty.

Cons: The case is plastic (doesn't look cheap though), alluminium would be better. The color of the cord (white) doesn't match the color of the drive (black).

Other Thoughts: Still twice as expensive as DVD+R for long-term storage.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat backup device

Pros: Great portable drive. Very light build but solid - can't even notice it's in my laptop bag weighing less than the power cord!!!! I love it, need to buy another one for home use.

Cons: Wish it was a 1.5TB drive for the money but I'll wait for prices to go down.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: 640GB capacity!, decent performance, average noise, runs cool.

Cons: Bright, annoying, white LED pattern on top cover pulsates pointlessly, yet does not indicate HD access.

Other Thoughts: Only way to obtain 640GB 9.5mm drive in mid-August 2009 is to buy one of these externals and pull the drive. Top and bottom covers are aluminum, held on with double-sided tape. Of course you will void the warranty.
