5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drives

Pros: I have 8 of these that have been running for over a year 24/7 in raid 6 in my stoarge server. I have not had one event with these drives at all. I have no idea why these are getting such a bad rap.

Cons: N/A

2 out of 5 eggsSigh

Pros: Seems quick for a slow spinning drive.
Works fine on an lsi raid card.

Cons: Bought 4, built array, moved ~4tb to the new array.
8 days in, a drive fails. Fine. RMA time!
Seagate.com shows a 2yr warranty period for my drive, even though the box says 5. Great.
So I pay to send the drive out without taking up that fight since I still had 1.961 years left anyway.
Took 3 days to ack the drive, and another 2 to tell me my replacement was delayed due to low stock.
Sweet, now I've got a degraded array, glad I invested in retail boxed drives.

What the hell seagate, pull one from the shelf, I'm ALREADY A CUSTOMER.

Other Thoughts: Anyone know if WD 2.0Tb drive are the same or bigger? From what I read their RMA process works and they care about people that buy their stuff.

Pros: Great price for 2T drive

Cons: Drive failed within 2 days of use. Lost a lot of time downloading before it crashed.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: NOTHING

Cons: I just wasted my weekend trying to get this drive to work with my Windows 7 and nothing. Worst experience ever with just adding an extra drive. Drive was sent back.

1 out of 5 eggs50% D.O.A.

Pros: Cheap 2 TB for NAS. Price is great! Its only GigE so I don't need monsterous throughput.

Cons: I got two for my NAS. One arrived D.O.A. Urgh, quality control must be absolute garbage now. I used to rely on Seagate. Now I just rely on redundancy. It sucks that no one makes a respectable product anymore. The real pain is that I have to pay to send the piece of junk back for one that may work. Thanks for sending me a paperweight that UPS will get an extra 12 bucks for hauling around.

1 out of 5 eggsonly 2 years of warranty coverage

Pros: I assume it works.

Cons: I just checked the warranties of the 2 new drives that arrived today. The newegg page says 5 years, the box says 5 years, but the warranty checker on seagate's website says I've got 2 years left. Unacceptable. I should have just paid a little more to go with WD drives.

5 out of 5 eggstimewarpone

Pros: Please at least take a look at google about formatted hard drive capacities before ranting about missing drive space. Please also remove a coupe of tech knowledge points..

Review:

Ive owned my Seagate drive for about 18 months and it has worked out very well. Very quiet, and quick enough for use as a backup drive.

Cons: None yet

5 out of 5 eggsNot Bad At All !!!

Pros: Very Quiet, Fast Transfer Rates, No Vibrations, No Clicking

Cons: This is a 2TB Drive. The usable space is 1.8 TB Where did the other 200 GB's of space go?? This is larger than my other back up drive. This amount of space is way to much to dismiss. Why can't they call it a 1.8 TB drive so people would know exactly what they are getting. Of course, this makes way to much sense!!!

Other Thoughts: Very Pleased, running Win 7 (64bit). Comes with an Sata Cable, 4 screws, Jumper, Users Manual & install/setup CD which I never used. Device manager detected the drive immediately then I used Win 7 to format and recognize the drive and we were good to go. The drive bay I used had a 120mm intake fan blowing right on it. (This is used as a backup drive). The box I received had the exact same product number as listed here on NewEgg but the box it came in said "Barracuda Green" and clearly stated on the box "64MB Cache"

4 out of 5 eggsGood cheap drive...cheaper elsewhere

Pros: It's a cheap drive by design. It accomplishes its goal by being cheap. I have a 3yr old 4bay enclosure with an ethernet connection on it. The data isn't going anywhere very fast anyway, so this is nice.

Cons: I have no clue why this is $150 here. I looked at it here, then went to [the Best local store to Buy it] for $110+tax ea.

Other Thoughts: It's going in an old 4bay enclosure that has an ethernet connection. It's used as a centralized iTunes tank for all my computers. Speed is virtually irrelevant. I exceeded the old 4TB capacity...time for 8.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great in RAID 1

Pros: This is the Barracuda LP (eco-friendly) and it works fine in RAID 1. It is 3gbs but if you're not running a filewrite intensive system, it shouldn't be a problem.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Thing I came to learn with HDDs is that if you purchase online, it is very likely to get manhandled during shipping (either from manufacturer to online store OR from online store to you). Save yourself the trouble and go buy it in a store (retail version, not OEM). In my case, the price at store was about $60 less than here at Newegg.
