4 out of 5 eggsA bit noisy

Pros: I basically got this drive for some cheap storage to get up and running. It seems fairly fast and does what I need it to do.

Cons: Noisy. My computer is located about 15 feet away and on floor. I can still hear the clatter of the drive very clearly from that distance. To me it seems unusually loud. I can't imagine if it was on the desk near me. Sorry, 1 egg off for that.

2 out of 5 eggsNoisy and Slow

Pros: In expensive and it is a Seagate.

Cons: LOUD! I can hear every click and tick. It is slower than it ought to be at 7,200 rpm and a 550W power source. My 5,400 rpm with a 450W power source was just as fast.

Other Thoughts: Should have read the reviews before purchasing this hard drive. My whole reason for making the purchase was the name: Seagate. My other Seagate is quieter and came pre-installed in a Dell and is over eight years old. Therefore, I thought buying another Seagate would be the smart thing.

4 out of 5 eggsGood alternative to high prices

Pros: Cost less than new HDD, and it works fine.

Cons: Not the fastest disk, but for the price and size it is cost effective

Other Thoughts: Installed in an older computer to replace a dead HDD. Easy install of Win 7 and no errors.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate has awful warranty

Pros: I can't think of a single reason why Seagate would ever be a good choice anymore.

Cons: Where to start...
- Their first hard drive failed after 1 year of normal use.
- The RMA they sent me had hard disk errors and failed Seatools diagnostic utility immediately after installation of Windows.
- The 2nd RMA they sent me had the exact same problems immediately after OS installation.
- The 3rd and supposedly new hard drive was never in recognized by BIOS. It made scraping noises, indicating hard drive failure.
- The 4th hard drive, finally worked. Given their reputation, I don't expect it to last long.

Other Thoughts: I've never had issues with any other hard drives. With Seagate products, I do.

The whole process took me hours of forms to fill out, customer chatting, repackaging, and waiting to finally receive a working drive. Not worth my time.

The fact that their refurbished and even new products failed their own diagnostic utility 3 times indicates that they do not even check their hard drives before shipping them out.

If I had problems even with their 5 year warranty, you can imagine how workable the drive is and how helpful they will be for a refurbished product after 30 days.

Will NEVER buy Seagate or any of their acquired companies (Maxtor). If I am as persuasive enough, no one I know personally will either.

1 out of 5 eggsBrick

Pros: Lots of good looking numbers on the sticker

Cons: Unit DOA. It spins and turns on and generates heat, but hangs up during install and won't take an OS. I tried XP, Vista, and 7.

4 out of 5 eggsWhy take the chance?

Pros: Bought this model new a few years back...never a problem. It runs in Raid0 24/7/365 with another 7200.9. Decent drive with decent performance.

Cons: Seagate offers 5yr warranties for the enterprise models (and some retail kits'...everything else is only 3 yrs. I know the reason for the lowering of warranties by Seagate and WD BOTH. Platter density...the higher the density per platter, the higher the odds for read/write errors in the future. Amost all 500, 1TB, 1.5TB anf 2TB drive are using 500gb platter densities to comprise the size of the drive. That being said..one question lingers..

Other Thoughts: Why buy a refurb (w/90day warranty) when a brand NEW unit (w/3 yr warrany) costs literally $10 more????
Just can't wrap my head around such a decision. I ask myself an over-simplified question and I'll share it with you all.
Why would I buy an drive that has been used, refurbished and only comes with a 90 day warranty, when I COULD pay $10 more for a more CURRENT model (.9 vs .12) that's never been used and carries a FULL 3yr warranty??? Then figure in the performance gap between the 7200.9s and the 7200.12, esp the perp. write technology and it makes the $10 'decision' clear as day. Of btw you'll spend almost $10 for shipping the refurb. Shipping for a new 7200.12 is FREE!

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: The only pro was cheap and 500gb.

Cons: Slowest hard drive ever, takes minutes to open C drive to explore music or documents etc... Boots up windows 7 in about ten minutes takes forever. This is with a Phenom 9600 and four gigs of 800mhz Ram.

Other Thoughts: It only took six hours to format this drive.

3 out of 5 eggspoor performer for me

Pros: good specs, great price

Cons: experienced high failure rate, mind your warantee!

Other Thoughts: I'm writing this review to report my individual experience with this series of SATA drives from Seagate. I have owned two - purchased as OEM drives, each one failed within a year's time and the manufacturer would not offer any sort of warantee. Caveat Emptor.

2 out of 5 eggsNot A Choice to Save $5 With

Pros: High Capacity, Average or Better Seek Time, Great Value.

Cons: Within 7 days of being installed and 2 hours of being put into heavy use, developed a stop and start routine that froze anything going on involving said drive. About 7 seconds on followed by two seconds stopped. Overheating maybe? Never worked normally again.
Also, not including any mounting screws is always a pain, especially after the 5th straight such shipment.

Other Thoughts: Like all hard disks, if it had a problem no one opened it up to fix it; refurbs are tested for power, read/write, and boxed back up (if you got a box). Of course I am only speaking about the recertified drives. And I'm sure it was this drive among the 3 installed in my system because only the programs on this particular drive or saving to this drive were affected.
