4 out of 5 eggsFantastic price, works great as a NAS

Pros: Cost is low, capacity is large. Sleep functions (default 15 minutes) are easily turned off, if needed with the Seagate Manager.

Cons: The utility needed to disable the sleep function wasn't included on the disk, and I had to download it from Seagate.

Other Thoughts: I found lots of complaints regarding the sleep function, and not having a way to turn it off. Since I'm attaching it to my WRT160NL to be used as NAS, I needed to disable sleep. I downloaded the Seagate Manager (http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/software/FreeAgentCN.zip) and was able to quickly change the setting while the drive was connected to my desktop. I wouldn't worry about the sleep function, and I'm not concerned with drive longevity or electricity costs so I don't need the disk to spin down or 'sleep'.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: This drive has taken everything ive thrown at it, the minute i set it up, it was being used heavily, i plugged it in, and transferred 1tb of data, and since then it has worked beautifully.

Cons: None, i have never had a problem with this drive.

Other Thoughts: I have a few other seagate externals, and each one has been a champ. i stopped buying WD because they started adding EFI partitions that are no longer compatible with both mac and PC. This drive is great!

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Expansion 2TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

Pros: - Relatively low price when on Sale only!
- Spacious capacity
- Easy setup, easy to format

Cons: - Relatively slow transfer speed; Seagate retail box/website does NOT state transfer speed!
- NO power button to switch on/off; it stays on when connected to USB port
- Can NOT be configured properly to work through a network with Win2000 primarily due to the automatic power down function that's built into the drive
- Tech support is a JOKE, NO tech info found at website, slow tech email response with generic answers :(

Other Thoughts: It was great I saw it on sale considering it's a 2Tb External drive.
Easy to setup and format, just plug n play.

Problems:
- Slow transfer speed so use it once initially for your first backup copy then make incremental backups
- Windows 2000 does NOT recognize drive properly due to the automatic power down function that's built into the drive; you can NOT access the drive to shut OFF the power down function; everytime it powers down (after a few minutes) then powers up (when used), the drive literally disconnects itself then re-connects itself to the computer that it's connected to! WHAT A PAIN!
- Returned the device after 1 weeks use!
- Poor tech support which is TYPICAL of Seagate

1 out of 5 eggsBE WARNED!!!!

Pros: Price at the time, although I didn't purchase it from NewEgg, had to buy locally...Sorry!!!

Cons: I tried to transfer video files from an old drive (WD 500 GB External) to this one and it started to click and make noises almost immediately!!! So far it hasn't failed but, it's starting to pause between every use...I've unplugged it and I'm looking for a replacement before it totally fails.

Other Thoughts: With 2TB of memories and pictures, it's not worth being cheap...I thought that Seagate would be reliable but I was very wrong!!! EVERYTHING I've read about these drives says, stay away from them...Be WARNED!!!

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate "Expansion" is a Dog

Pros: At the time that I had purchased this drive the low price was a plus.

Cons: After using this drive for a few months it began making a loud clunking noise. A few weeks after that I decided that I would save all my data on another drive just in case. Too late, the drive began giving error messages and I lost all my files before I had a chance to salvage anything.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased about 10 Seagate external drives over the years without a single mishap and I always recommended them to friends. However, now I wouldn't touch a Seagate with a 10 foot pole.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE!!!

Pros: none

Cons: First drive failed with a usb problem. Replacement failed with a clicking sound.

Other Thoughts: I'm guessing by the other reviews on there that this drive has SERIOUS design flaws. I will never buy another Seagate drive as long as I live. This purchase COST me money since I had to send it back twice to NewEgg and I'm out $25. In fact, NewEgg should stop selling this drive immediately.

4 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: It's been reliable for me. I shipped it around the world to move data to remote offices. We have a couple of them. No problems with either.

Cons: Not the fastest and runs hotter than I'd like.

Other Thoughts: For the price I can't complain.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it! It's not worth the cost to return it - and you WILL find yourself returning it!

Pros: Really? None. It kicked in with the clickety-clack of drive death in less than 24 hours of ownership, and that was with me handling it VERY gingerly and carefully. This thing is just not even worth keeping around as a paperweight, which will be what it ends up serving as if you buy it.

Cons: It didn't even last 24 hours before starting to die on me. And, even though NewEgg was great about refunding me my money and initial shipping costs, I still had to dish out about $26.00 just to ship it back, which WASN'T reimbursed, so this thing actually ended up COSTING me money in the long run. SO not worth a single penny! This drive has completely tarnished Seagate's name in my mind. I'd relied on their good name when I bought this drive, but I can't even fathom why it is that they're even bothering to continue to sell these. They should be using them as bricks to build structures, not serve as system storage. Just walk away from this thing... No, wait, RUN! : P

Other Thoughts: NewEgg, as always, offers great options, and great customer service, but this item should be boycotted overall. Anyone that has had success with this drive should truly consider themselves lucky, especially considering all of the negative reviews that I've read, 'Net-wide, on this external hard drive. It just isn't worth the headaches that it'll bring.
