1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY! Short life span.

Pros: None

Cons: Right from having it arrive it was finicky about working, half the time it wouldn't detect without lots of attempts, most of the time it would sit there with a solid green light and beep, at first thought it was a lemon but then after 'more' attempts it would work. The USB cable, connection, and just general construction is poor to say the least, and did I mention it puts itself into sleep mode practically every 5 minutes? Speed wise, its also not too fast either, especially coming out of sleep mode.

Other Thoughts: I would only use this drive for hard drive backup purposes only, everyday use...just forget it assuming you don't have problems with it like most others do. I had mine about 3 months then after disconnecting the cable to do some basic maintenance it's right back to not being detected and beeping, occasionally it partially worked then failed, pretty much giving up on this piece of garbage and going to purchase another passport.

1 out of 5 eggsvery bad connection

Pros: well.. it does 'normal' job

Cons: I bought it about a year ago.
1) it's big: it was written 2.5" but.. it is 3.5" boy..
2) it's heavy
3) it has connection problem with power cable which is a big trouble because every time you move then you lose connection. Then I always have to re-start back after where I was... Such pain.

Other Thoughts: I will call customer service tomorrow to see what they can do for it as it's still under warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Looks polished. The price is good and free shipping. I havent experienced anything wrong with it. It works with all OS I use (Windows XP, 2003, 7, Linux).

Cons: A little larger than an ordinary portable USB drive. I believe its an enterprise 2.5'' hard disk inside, which is a slightly larger than a laptop 2.5. The powersaving features of all Seagate external drives are annoying. It serves no purpose, IMHO. It certainly wont save much electricity in this way. By constantly powering up and down the disk, it wont do much good to the disk either. But one can easily turn off this feature using Seagate disk manager.

Other Thoughts: Seagate has gathered quite a bad reputation over the past few years. But my experience with Seagate has been very positive. I just hope this continues.

1 out of 5 eggsTotally Unreliable & Size of Enclosure is HUGE

Pros: None

Cons: - Drive often spins up but cannot be detected by the system, even when I have made sure that the USB cable is snug on both ends. The only thing you can do is keep disconnecting and re-connecting the USB cable and hope that it works.
- When my system finally detects the drive, it would sometimes disappear without warning, even during file transfers.
- The size of the enclosure is MASSIVE-- about the size of a bare 3.5" hard drive. It looks like it is thick enough to house two or three 2.5" laptop hard drives.

Other Thoughts: I have tried using this drive with my ThinkPad X201 laptop and my desktop with an Asus M2A-VM board. It seems like this drive doesn't get enough power from a single USB port for reliable performance.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The hard drive is pretty small and mobile. I has a large size for data storage.

Cons: The port is recessed to far back. The cable that comes with the drive will not allow the computer to read the data, although it does provide power. I had to go to another store to buy a cable with a smaller end that would work on this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Good!

Pros: Never experienced any! I bought one of these on Newegg and when I plugged it in straight out of the box it powered on and lit up, but the disc did not spin. So I got an RMA for an exchange and got another of the same drive hoping it was not a dud product, but it was. . . the second one that showed up did the same thing.

Cons: Well, the whole thing was a con, it just didn't work!

Other Thoughts: I've always known Seagate to make decent drives, after this product I don't know what to think.

4 out of 5 eggsDrive is fine, USB port is the problem

Pros: Small, cheap

Cons: bad recessed USB port design

Other Thoughts: Easy fix - simply carve down the plastic around the USB plug so that it can fit ALL THE WAY into the stupidly-recessed USB port on the drive, affording full contact, and allowing proper drive operation.

1 out of 5 eggsCable is damaged and seagate will not warranty the cable just the drive

Pros: well dont know

Cons: I am a tech of 15 years that orders a lot of products for my customers, I ordered 2 of these drives and both of the cables are crimped in the box, so they don’t work, if you bend the cable were its crimped then it will work sometimes, I found 2 new cables from other Seagate hard drive we have here and then they work fine, so called Seagate for warranty as it said on Newegg’s site, Seagate does not warranty the cables just the drive, even when its only 1 day old. So much for warranty. nice. Don’t buy Seagate!

Other Thoughts: When you have a warranty it should cover the complete item.
