1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Is Junk Stick to WD

Pros: No Pros...

Cons: This quit working after a couple of weeks. i shelved it and bought a WD which I am still using today. Now a while later and wanting to try and use this it is now out of warrantee and cant get it to work. The drive became unresponsive when trying to access.

Other Thoughts: Seagate shame on you for putting out bad products.

3 out of 5 eggsUltra

Pros: Good price. Good versatility

Cons: "Ultra" portable my foot. Seagate drivers and firmware.

Other Thoughts: What makes something portable? Size? Weight? So what makes something "ultra" portable? My full tower ATX is portable - lift it right up and put it in the car. Though indeed this hard drive can fit in a purse, you probably shouldn't put it there without its packaging, or on your keychain, or in your back pocket... all hard drives are 'portable', though none are ultra portable. Treat them like raw eggs, or pay the price.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked perfectly out of the box and fast

Pros: Came out of the box NTFS formatted (allows files larger than 4GB such as movies) and recognized instantly by my Dell 6520 Windows 7 usb 3.0 compliant laptop . Immediately after unboxing I attached the drive to one of my usb 3.0 ports and ran a full system backup using symantec system recovery 2011 software. It backed 66GB of files in only 46 minutes, waaaaaay faster than I expected. I used the same software to backup 55GB last evening to my usb 2.0 drive and it took about 100 minutes. So I didn't get the advertised 10x the usb 2.0 speed but 2x is reasonably faster and I'm sure the software may have been a bottleneck. I am very pleased with my purchase and especially for the portability, no need for AC adapter, speed and 930MB free space. The 12" cable is of durable build and plenty long enough to attach to my laptop while the back up is being performed.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works well, formatted it to FAT32 easily, stores all the movies that I want it to.

Cons: Is not recognized by XBox 360, due to it's large size..

Other Thoughts: 1TB, wire is about 12 inches long, some may find this a con.. scratches rather easily, but what doesn't..

4 out of 5 eggs6-7 months and no problems.

Pros: First, my drive came with a USB 3.0 cable. I bought it from Walmart, not Newegg though. I've had this drive for about 6-7 months and it works great for the most part.

Cons: My particular drive does not stream movies very well. If I'm playing a movie from this drive it lags every 10-15 minutes for about 5 seconds, which is annoying. It's almost as if the drive is trying to go to sleep and then suddenly wakes up again. However, the drive itself doesn't have power management settings, and no settings I've tried in the windows 7 control panel are effective either. I'm still trying to figure out how to solve this problem with my particular drive. I have this same drive in 750gig size as well, but that drive does not have any issues with lagging. It works perfectly when I'm playing movies off it.

Other Thoughts: I have the 750 gig version of this drive as well. I like both the drives a great deal. Having one drive that can utilize multiples forms of connectivity is great. It's just annoying having to buy and have multiple (different) seagate cables to take advantage of this.

People make way too much of Seagates connection platform in my opinion. The way the connection cable attaches to the drive is secure and durable. I personally think it's more durable and reliable than those ridiculous mini USB ports that a lot of drives have.

4 out of 5 eggsLooking

Pros: Looks good, no AC adapter required (USB powered). Thi spost is to get some clarifications (read cons).

Cons: I don't know since I did'nt understand those cons from others, especially those complaints from dotnettex... ALl we get is personal and emotional reaction, no clear flaw description about the drive itself : "holding features", what does this mean? What "features"? How are the "held"? Please be more specific.

Other Thoughts: I don't have this drive, I'm gathering some info before the buy.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the money

Pros: Very small and portable and surprisingly it has 930gb of total capacity. The included software works good and always backs my files up whenever I connect the drive. Was deciding between this and the 2tb model since they were both the same price at Staples but decided to go with this one since it was smaller and more portable.

Cons: Took 6 hours to transfer 100gb on USB 2.0

Other Thoughts: Will try the USB 3.0 upgrade once I get a computer with the 3.0 ports.

1 out of 5 eggsSTAY AWAY!! FRAUD

Pros: The fact that it's REALLY a 1Tb drive!

Cons: Seagates "Hold the drive features ransome to squeeze more $$ from the user" business model!

Other Thoughts: I cannot believe this!! For years, I have purchase Seagate products. But after buying there GoFlex HOME 2tb drive, I believe it will be the LAST time I purchase from such a shoddy company!

I paid almost $200 for the GoFlex 2Tb network drive because I needed a network filestore for media and such. To my dismay, I find (reading the manuals) that they basically hold the drive features ransome so they can squeeze more money out of the user!!!??? Only 3 systems can backup unless a PREMIUM feature is purchased!!! Only 5 systems can connect unless a PRO upgrade is purchased (at a yearly fee)!!??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Of course they forgot to mention this on the box, right!!??

I could understand if it were due to the drives limitations, but its not. They're limiting its use on purpose for the sake of more $$$$. Is Michael Isner on their board by chance? Sounds like a stunt Oracle would pull!! Well.. I'm taking it back TODAY!!!
