Pros: Works and was inexpensive, Dock allows quck switch of multilpe enclosures

Cons: As others have stated the drive stays on and spining reqardless of your computer being on or off.

1 out of 5 eggs**Failed**

Pros: Operated like a back-up hard drive when it worked

Cons: Failed to do the intended job of safely storing important data.

Other Thoughts: The sole purpose of this device is to safely store our critical data files; one job, and it failed to do this. I always felt that the most critical component of any computer system is the hard drive for the reason that if it stopped working, the data lost is irreplaceable. Whereas, other components (ie. ram, cpu, motherboard) are all replaceable. This device conveniently failed on me 1 year and two months from the date that I purchased it. I would be a fool to use this product again, or any product from Seagate.

5 out of 5 eggsGood So Far

Pros: 2TB Storage, Clean casing design, stays cool, and drive has a dock that disconnects (making data recovery easy if there is some failure).

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: We have 2 of these, this one is connected to a iMac and is setup for time machine in Lion, No issues so far. This one said S.M.A.R.T. Status not supported.

The other is a 1TB connected to a Windows 2008 server using windows backup. This one was a replacement for their older silver model. This one is inside a server rack and using Acronis Drive monitor, it is able to detect the smart status and temperature, now it is setup to email me if there is ever a problem. Could not do any of this with the older model.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat External Drive

Pros: Very fast with USB 3.0. I have two running 24/7. I am always concerned with heat in external enclosures that do not have fans, but I had had no issues with heat shutdown.

One of the drives would turn off on its own and restart. I quickly diagnosed the problem with the USB 3.0 cable not making a secure connection with the desktop. Probably a combination of the cable and port. I switched cables and the problem was resolved.

I am waiting for a price drop on the 3T and will try one then.

Cons: Really none

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive, not so good cord

Pros: This is a solidly built drive. Transfer speeds are what you'd expect. This drive does exactly what it's designed to do. No more, no less. A good purchase if you're looking for quick and easy (if a little pricey because of the factory floods) storage. However, the included USB cable was flimsy and short and had a tendency to just slide right out of the socket. I substituted for one I had lying around and have had no problems since then.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for just over a year, and then...

Pros: Worked seamlessly for just over a year.

Cons: The attached USB converter broke a couple weeks ago which forced me to buy a separate SATA to usb adapter which is highly annoying since now I have to carry all these extra cables around. Additionally, it is now starting to fail (will only spin for a minute or so at a time and restarts frequently) so it is difficult to put anything in it and take stuff out. I may potentially lose almost a TB of stuff as that is the amount of stuff in it that's not backed up anywhere else. Will never buy this again.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome external drive

Pros: Lots of storage place. Can upgrade to USB 3.0. Reasonable price and decent performance. Newegg shipped it fast. Drive does what it's supposed to do.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Using this external drive as a network drive through my Asus wireless router. It performs rather well through wireless access.
