4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I love this.
I have not found anything it will not play.
I hooked it up to a external 3 TB drive and it picked up 720 movies.
It will even play Blu-ray iso files.

Cons: Sluggish

Other Thoughts: Be nice if it had a connector for hookup to the router to read my nas server

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Works as described with directly connected drives.
Easy set up.
Handles a wide variety of file types.

Cons: Does not properly handle networked files.
Only organizers files on directly connected drives.
When set to HDMI auto it tries to force everything into HD format instead of detecting info and adjusting output according to format.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this player to simplify playing videos on my home network. My wife won't use my current set up which uses a s-video cable from a nearby computer. She simply doesn't want to learn where to look for videos or how to use the variety of programs needed to handle our 20,000+ files. Through this Seagate player, files stutter constantly or are so filled with artifacts as to be unwatchable. The player functions with lower quality files when set to 480i but is otherwise useless with network files. My video collection is on older servers with dual Xeon 3.2 processors, 4Gb RAM, on gigabyte wired network. This setup is adequate to deliver content to my TV but the Seagate player deos not handle it well enough. Guess it is time to investigate DLNA software solutions. I expected better from Seagate.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for me, bought a second 1

Pros: Plays mts files from HD Cam in HD through HDMI. So far it has played every movie and picture file I have tried from thumbs and USB HDDs. I keep it simple, no LAN or other stuff. I gave one to my Dad in a nursing home so he can see the GKs on his flat screen TV. Does the job.

Cons: Menu is clumsy. It has to "loop" to get back to where you choose movies. Memo to designers: don't ask engineers or geeks to design your menus. Lost an Egg for the menu.

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Netflix in Canada

Pros: Can access SMB shares over the network.
Plays HD videos (e.g. MKV files).

Cons: The device is not compatible with Netflix in Canada.
It can't play HD videos from Youtube.
Menus are functional, but not user friendly. They are slow and the device locks up sometimes.

2 out of 5 eggsSigh

Pros: Played any file I threw at it.
Streamed Netflix well.

Cons: Lasted about almost three months.
Was hardly used.
Began having problems with the HDMI output and finally just wouldn't power on.

Other Thoughts: I purchased another for my mom around the same time, she uses it nearly everyday and it still runs like a champ.
I might give this product one more shot.

5 out of 5 eggsTheatre+

Pros: I own the sister unit that is now discontinued. The Seagate Theatre+ is what i have owned for about 2 months. My modem and router sit on top of my tv center. The Seagate Theatre+ has a lan port. I plug the Theatre+ into the router. Now i am able to access my hard drive ( and dvd rom drive ) thru the Theatre+ on my big screen tv. This box plays everything, and i mean everything. I have been getting movies in 1080P and 720P and all I can say is WOW. Oh, all of this plays wirelessly. as my computer has a WIFI adapter and the Theatre+ becomes part of your network.. Make sure you are using a N network adapter and router. When you are streaming movies in your house it is not using internet, it is using the internal network in your house, speeds are much faster. If you are not, streaming does skip. I watch videos, burn DVDs, and surf and i am streaming a 1080P with not one hiccup , all at the same time. ( Dual core 3.5ghz, 4 gig memory )
Hope this helps, a hell of a box
Bud316

Cons: It does not dispense Bud Light from the USB port. That is the only problem i can see with this unit.

Other Thoughts: Excellent buy at any price, stop converting your videos and just use this box. Oh, and i bought a rosewell USB external 2.5 case and it slides right into the Theatre+. The Goflex is just about the exact same thing. Turn your tv on to the web. To much to list.

2 out of 5 eggsi wish i hadn't bought this thing

Pros: -small, cheap
-plays FLAC through USB (see cons)
-simple to use and implement

Cons: -lan connection wont play HD movies due to BW limitations (DVD Quality works fine)
-AVIs, MKVs wont play. some files will have no audio, some have no video & some just wont play at all.
-FLAC wont play over lan
-samba only works on a windows network. linux samba can be set to look like a windows network but its a pain.

Other Thoughts: 100M lan = 100MB/s (should be at least 8MB/s) the connection is maxing out at about 1.2MB/s

1 out of 5 eggsdoes not perform

Pros: Plays netflix okay.

Cons: Freezes up when using slide show feature on usp or disk drive. Seagate has no fix and won't even accept the device for warranty repair. Call or email and see for your self. I gave this as a gift and am naturally embarrassed.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Small box.

Cons: Photos on disk or USB cause the device to lock. Seagate won't accept warranty return because there is currently no fix. Maybe a future firmware update will address the issue. I am embarrassed to have given this as a gift to a friend.

Other Thoughts: Never again, Seagate!

3 out of 5 eggsNot that great

Pros: You can access internet services.

Cons: The defenition for playback on video files is not very good. M2TS files start playing in the middle of the file.

Other Thoughts: Just go with the Patriot Box Office. It will give you a better quality picture for regular VOB, ISO or MPEG files, and the M2TS files look the way they should(High Defenition).
