5 out of 5 eggsGreat, well built drive

Pros: This is a nice, heavy duty drive that produces fast transfer speeds and gets the job done.

5 out of 5 eggsfast drive, long warranty

Pros: Good solid-feeling drive. Made with a heavier case than cheaper Seagate models. Transfer speeds are nearly as good as one of them killer dinosaur drives. I got avg 130 MB/s read speeds, and 95-100 MB/s write speeds. Quiet operation.
.....5 year warranty.....

Cons: no problems so far... 1 con would be that it's not cheap

Other Thoughts: I wanted a fast drive, and the benchmarks tell me that this drive is fast, but I can't tell much difference when using it. It's not an SSD, but you can't get anywhere near the GB's per dollar with an SSD that you get with rotational media. I felt that it was the pest price/performance blend I could get.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Surveillance DVR Drive

Pros: I've used several of these in Surveillance DVR set-ups. This is usually very demanding on a hard drive. This one went into a Linux based dedicated DVR. Recognized, formatted and started recording. No problem. Quiet operation. No heat problem.

Cons: I've occasionally wished they came with a molex power connector.

Other Thoughts: I've been getting over 5 years out of Seagate's Enterprise drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGood drives

Pros: I have used several of these drives in SuperMicro barebones servers. No failures yet.

Cons: A little on the expensive side, but that's to be expected on an "enterprise class" SATA drive.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet, reliable for

Pros: Quieter than my Seagate Barracuda ES ST3750640NS 750GB hdd from 2007 ( ST3750640NS ). I had to buy rubber mounts for that drive and stick it in a 3.5" bay. The Constellation vibrates much less whether its seeking or writing.

Cons: Expense that comes with enterprise level hardware.

Other Thoughts: I'll try to update on this drive's reliability as time goes on. Initial surface check with Win7 scandisk shows no bad sectors.

UPDATE: Been running practically 24/7 since end of July 2010 as I rarely turn off my computer. No problems. I think I'll get another. Hopefully it won't be a lemon like some of the reviewers relate.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Price, storage size and five year warranty.

Cons: Dead on arrival and that just frustrates me to no end. I own a PC repair shop and this was for a client in need of his PC. Now I have to wait and get a exchange. I will not be getting this same unit!

Other Thoughts: Seems that being OEM, there would be an easy way to test this drive before shipping out.

4 out of 5 eggsQuality or Clumsiness?

Pros: Quiet. Priced well. Hopefully Seagate name.

Cons: The eSata connection tab broke when I was pushing the drive rack back into place. Metal prongs all bent up at 45degree angle. Never had this problem with any other drive and I am not a terribly rough person. Bent pins down and electrical taped cable in place as I needed drive and it has worked flawlessly since. Not saying. Just saying.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: quiet, normal speed

Cons: Seemed like a good drive, until the MBB failed, If the drive fails escp the master boot block, then the drive is no good, Zero good, and to pay extra.... I am not happy

Other Thoughts: I installed the drive Oct 2, 2010. Windows 7, and so on, Jan 31, 2011 it failed to boot. I too use acronis, and was able to get up with a Windows repair which put the boot block on my d: drive, but still had to use the image disk. According to my Acronis info I lost about 1/10th of a gig, or 100mb, including crash dump. Wish I could tell more, but I now need to get this drive out of my system, make a backup image and figure out what would be a reliable 1 gb HD.

I can only say I will not trust Seagate's ST3100524ns drive line.

I wonder if these are for raid systems where a failure is....

1 out of 5 eggsThe Odd Man Out?

Coming Soon!

Pros: Enterprise in name indicating reliability

Cons: SMART monitoring indicated the drive moved from good to a "politically correct" description of "normal" after 26 hours of running with a message indicting the drive now had low performance and low reliability. If that is normal, I am a sceptic; it really should say "Not quite dead."

Other Thoughts: Tired of HDD problems, including 2 Seagate 500 gB drives, I thought I would pay extra for the reliability of an enterprise drive (four 5* reviews of this drive were shown at NewEgg), I bought one hoping Seagate's problems were past and didn't extend to the Enterprise line. The result was not what I expected nor hoped for. The Win 7 performance was low and no faster than a 5400 rpm drive but that was O.K. as long as it was reliable and long lasting. Monitoring showed 65 events (mainly raw read error rates and EEC recovered) getting worse and by day 3 the monitoring software indicated there was nothing really wrong but the drive now had low performance and low reliabilty: not what I wanted from an Enerprise drive that cost twice as much as regular drives that had no such negatives shown. Sorry to be the first to be totally negative about this drive but I will have to look elsewhere. I cloned the drive, formatted & RMAed. I would like to attach a jpg but can only do it as video at NewEgg.
