5 out of 5 eggsWell worth it, excellent product

Pros: It's fast, MUCH faster than the factory 5400rpm drive that came in my 13" Macbook. Very little vibration, and so far I haven't encountered any of the energy/power saving issues with either pinwheeling or spin-up others have had. For the price this is a must for Macbook users looking for more storage paired with performance. Install for Mac is roughly 10min not including migration, not complaining.

Cons: Heat, this drive gets toasty, not to the point of discomfort or worry but it's definitely warmer than the factory drive. There is SLIGHTLY more vibration as to be expected, nothing ludicrous or uncomfortable.

Other Thoughts: Newegg provided outstanding service and the delivery time was spot on, just under 3-days and it arrived on my door step. Seagate has made a quality product, that said we all know hard drives occasionally are lemons, don't let the occasional DOA or early failure discourage you, that is just the nature of purchasing a new drive.

4 out of 5 eggsawesome Hybrid

Pros: Boots faster than a standard HDD
200 MBPS burst
90 MBPS average read
access time (where it counts) 0.5ms Super Fast!

Cons: More flash memory would make it much faster
Little real difference over a standard HDD
If you want to mount this in a desktop, good luck figuring out a way to do it as it is a 2.5inch drive

Other Thoughts: props to seagate for engineering this cool ssd/hdd comprimise. also props to them for updating the firmware.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: This drive does everything it says it does. My win 7 64bit ult went from a boot time of around 3.5mins down to 1min. Most programs open with in 2 to 3 secs now. Just Awesome speed! Only had to reboot 3 or 4 times for the adaptive algorithm to learn my system. The price vs performance on this drive is unbeatable. completely affordable with ssd like speeds. You will see speed increases where you NEED them but not for where you want them like... installation of software or large file transfers

Cons: would like to see more of a selection for this type of drive. like an 8gig and 16gig hybrid option would be great. You will see speed increases where you NEED them but not for where you want them like... installation of software or large file transfers. i knew this going in and its not really a complaint just an observation. the price is right and the speed is right!

Other Thoughts: we will see how long this drive lasts. from the reviews iv read and with seagates fail rate reputation i was nervous clicking the submit/purchase button on this deal, however there is a 3yr warranty which gives me some comfort, just dont like paying ups everytime i have to rma. if i have any problems with this drive i'll update my post.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded my expectations

Pros: Purchased this HDD for my wife’s inspiron 1720 (1.6GHz C2D). It had a 4 yr old 7200 rpm HDD in it but I wanted to see if I could get more out of this laptop as she would be working from home on it soon. I had already replaced the mem with 4 gig lower latency Mushkin which made for a slight improvement. I didn't go with a SSD for this laptop as it's old. I was just looking to make it viable for a couple more years without spending much money.

Before installing this drive the laptop took about 40 sec to get to the logon prompt in Win 7 Ult 32bit. This has now shrunk to 14 sec. Office, Adobe, and IE all open almost instantly! This thing is amazing for the money!

My wife has been using it on a daily basis now for about 4 months and loves how much faster it is for her.

It does have limitations to its performance, but if your usage is within those limitations then it will be just as fast as an SSD.

Cons: Wish the SSD partition was 2 -4 times its size, but I guess that will come in the future.

The biggest con to this HDD, compared to an SDD is power consumption.

Other Thoughts: If you are an average user and mostly use IE, Office suite, and Adobe, I highly recommend this HDD. It will give you SSD performance for 90% of the things you will do on your computer but cost half as much. However, if you are a heaver user and use a wider and ever changing smattering of applications, you will only see minimal (if any) performance benefits from this drive compared to other 7200 RPM drives.

5 out of 5 eggsCheaper than SSD, faster than regular HDD

Pros: The hybrid HDD concept is solid and this definitely runs faster than a standard HDD, but at a much lower cost than a full SSD.

Laptop boots in less the half the time to fully ready to go from the old 5400rpm HDD, both with a fresh installation for testing purposes.

Win7 is smart about these drives and runs a bunch faster. It is also more aggressive in spinning down the drive to save power than with the old HDD.

Cons: I wish I bought the 500GB model instead, but I wanted to try it out on the cheaper version first.

Other Thoughts: I'll be curious to see if/when Seagate starts increasing the SSD portion to larger than 4GB. That'll only make these more attractive.

2 out of 5 eggsFast, but unreliable

Pros: When I first bought this drive it was great. Opening up programs and loading into programs was a flash. Plus it had 250GB to throw around.

Cons: After four months I started getting BSOD's. Ran Seagate's hdd test only to find out it had about 30 bad sectors. The hdd test "repaired" the sectors.

Other Thoughts: I went against what I know about Seagate and decided to give them another chance. I will never purchase another Seagate product.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat at first

Pros: Drive was installed on Thinkpad Z60T (Pentium M vintage) to replace stock 80GB 5400 RPM drive. The first week or two, the results were very impressive - similar performance gains to what others have reported.

Cons: After a couple of weeks, regular BSOD's, system freezes and slowdowns. Very frustrating. Just replaced it with a WD Scorpio Black of the same size.

Other Thoughts: I would suggest the technology is very promising. I love the concept - it's brilliant - but the firmware is not ready for prime-time. I wonder how many of the positive reviews would continue to be positive after several months of use.

4 out of 5 eggsGood hard drive

Pros: 3.0Gb/s, Quality, the hope that it'll get quicker over time.

Cons: Sometimes while using my computer the makes a loud sound when the drive powers down, then immediately powers back up again. Hasn't happened often.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this dive for a little over a week on a mid '09 13" MacBook Pro 2.53Ghz 8GB RAM 10.6.4 w/ all updates. Before this drive I had a 200GB 1.5Gb/s 7200 RPM drive. I haven't noticed a speed differences yet at all, but maybe it takes longer (anyone know how long it can take for it to do its magic?). Other wise it's a nice drive, the 3Gb/s is the only measurable benefit I've seen so far. When using "Disk Speed Bench X.app" it literally tested twice as fast as my old drive in transfer speeds. This drive is probably more worth it if you have a slower/stock drive in your machine, especially if your computer can take advantage of 3Gb/s (which mine does). I wanted to wait to review this after I had a chance to test it in my desktop to compare to my first gen VelociRaptor, but it may be awhile before I can do that. Safari seems to be running slower lately, but I think it's just a coincidence. Over all I have no regret about buying this, and am thinking it'll get faster in time.
