4 out of 5 eggsReplacement Drives

Pros: These are the drives that are currently in my HP StorageWorks X1500. I've had 2 fail in the last 3 months. I've purchased 3 (1 extra for hotswap) of these in the last 3 months and are great at the price point. The drives have lasted quite awhile (4 years) with heavy use.

Cons: The existing ones failed? I haven't owned them long enough draw up any other conclusions. Like I said, the existing drives have lasted quite awhile.

5 out of 5 eggsNo issues

Pros: I have had 5 of these drives in a Synology NAS running 24/7 for over a year without any issues, and 5 more installed recently, also without a hitch. Planning to stick with these as 2TB drives for RAID arrays.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive.

Pros: This drive is quiet, fast, and reliable. Not to mention its large capacity, which is awesome to have in an enterprise class drive.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsConstellation 2TB - Poorest Reliability and Highest Price

Pros: None compared to the Barracuda

Cons: Started receiving the "S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD - Backup and Replace" message after about 2 1/2 months use. My model is number isST2000NM0011, but it is a Seagate 2TB Constellation Enterprise HDD purchased from Newegg in December '11.
Luckily for me, this HDD is in RAID1 with a 2TB Barracuda, so my data are safe, but I purchased the Constellation specifically because it is supposed to have "commercial, enterprise" level reliability.
Obviously, based on my experience in this case, the Constellation was a clear waste of money. Wish I had installed two Barracudas instead.

Other Thoughts: It was a bad strategy to spend a lot of money on one of the HDDs that was part of a RAID configuration. RAID provided the data security. The enterprise quality Constellation HDD did not.

1 out of 5 eggsSerious Let down

Pros: ran cool, were relatively quite

Cons: I ordered 3 for a RAID 5, all were defective
#1 - failed SMART tests and showed bad sectors
#2 - showed lots of bad sectors
#3 - was very loud when its heads were seeking

both #1 & #2 showed errors using Seagate's SeaTools, haven't tried #3 but don't think i'll bother with how loud it is

Other Thoughts: will be contacting the Egg for refund and going with a different brand. Could have been a bad batch of course, but this seems rather troubling.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate -- drives poor quality

Pros: Not much, considering the drive went bad nearly after starting to use it.

Cons: Drive worked for a little while without issues, 2 or 3 weeks. After which it would randomly disappear from the drive list and never come back. Not as bad as the other seagate drive i used, it crashed the system if "Write back cache" was enabled. Dealing with Seagate for a return was one the worse warranty return i've run into.

Other Thoughts: I guess the upside is there are other drive manufactures.

5 out of 5 eggsjust works

Pros: Just Works

Cons: Expensive

Other Thoughts: I've bought two and they both - so far - have been "install and forget" experiences. That's poor statistics, but I will certainly go back to these drives for my long-term storage needs.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drives

Pros: Installed win RAID with zero issues. All drives in perfect working order and have been for the last 9 months.

Cons: A bit pricey, but that is worth it when your server is hours away and works 24/7.

Other Thoughts: Ouch!... My wallet!

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the trick

Pros: Great performance, reliable

Cons: A bit pricier than others, but we're hoping it's worth the extra cash

Other Thoughts: So far, so good. We recently purchased several of these drives for a few external RAID enclosures, and we're hoping that these Enterprise-level drives will afford us better performance and reliability than standard desktop drives. No complaints so far!
