1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: Large amount of storage space
Quick, and quiet.

Cons: Bad sectors and drive failure.

Other Thoughts: This drive every year like clockwork starts to accumulate horrible bad sectors and fail.
I have had four other hard drives outlast this one for years without a hint of a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsGood, Stable Hard Drive

Pros: I have now had this drive for a few months.
-stable
-fast
-a huge amount of storage & a very high quality drive for this low price.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Seagates are my favorite drives. I have had much better luck with Seagate drive than with any competitors (like Western Digital, etc. ).

1 out of 5 eggsToo Noisy

Pros: Price

Cons: Way too noisy it be used in a DVR.

Other Thoughts: Replaced an earlier model of the SV35 that went south in my TiVo with this new model. This drive is so noisy you can hear it in the next room. It is supposed to be optimal for recording multiple video streams but even with my TiVo in a cabinet you can hear the steady noise of the heads seeking. It sounds like an old teletype machine. I am going to get a different model (and vendor) and trash this thing.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, Good price

Pros: Quiet drive. High capacity for good price. Runs cool.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I used four of these drives in a RAID 5 array only to find that an array over 2GB is not bootable. This is not a con for the drive, just a note to those looking to do the same setup. I ended up configuring them in a RAID 0+1 instead (2GB) and they are bootable that way.

5 out of 5 eggsSecurityHDInstall

Pros: Great Price. Easy install.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Installed 2 of these in Sanyo 16 camera security unit to increase recording length from 5 days to 20+. Have been using continuously over the past several weeks, without a hiccup.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate SV35.5 ST31000525SV (open box) Failure

Pros: Did not arrive DOA and did started up. Bargain price ( open box item ) system recognized the hd.

Cons: Windows disk mgmt and other hd utils indicated bad realloc sectors, no buffer size, health status:bad...etc.
Surface scans read bad at the very 1st "red" block and stuck there for 12-15 minutes.
Reboot issues afterwards. Overall summary from Windows and other hd util tests shows that it is defective.
There was a RMA sticker on the static bag it was packed in.
When I saw it, didn't need Spidy senses to know this was a coin flip purchase.
Made in China w/no date of mfr. on label.
In the process of RMA to Newegg.

Other Thoughts: This is suppose to be a "professional" hd for 24x7 security use?
Very disappointed with Seagate. My ratings for them just dropped.
Did purchase another open box SG a few years ago. I was lucky w/that one, it was never opened and the Barracuda is still running fine.
Sure there are good TB drives avail.(WD black series? & other brands ), but will wait until quality control/production catches up with the TB group. Prices should be lower by then.
For now, will stick w/ WD Caviar Green,Blue series and stay within the GB range.
